Good morning! Happy July! The start of a new month always means a new challenge over at The Ton’s Challenge Blog. This month, Effie has put together a beautiful mood board from which you can draw inspiration for your projects!! Take a look at this beauty:
So many areas to focus your creativity!!! My card is a bit of a mashup between the photo with the beautifully decorated coffee cup and the box of macarons surrounded by gorgeous blooms. Let’s get started with the details!
I wanted to recreate a pretty cafe table, something reminiscent of what you’d find in a Parisian patisserie or cafe… So I chose to play with the fantastic Hug In A Mug set and the coordinating dies. I stamped and heat embossed the coffee pot and mug images onto watercolor paper using gold embossing powder. I also heat embossed the large tower of macarons from Sweet Macarons and the stunning Anemone Bouquet using the same gold embossing powder. I watercolored everything using my Daniel Smith watercolors, then die cut the Anemone Bouquet and Hug In A Mug using their coordinating dies.
Creating that cute little box o’macarons took a little creativity on my part. Originally, when I sketched this idea out in my sketchbook, I had planned to use the smaller macaron outline stamp from Macarons, but they were far too large to fit the scale of the teapot and coffee cup. So, I improvised and watercolored only the macarons from Sweet Macarons that were completely facing outward, then fussy cut them out. I created a box by trimming down a strip of card stock, then using my craft knife to trim out a “window.” I glued my macarons to another strip of card stock, then adhered my “box” to the top, adding some gold outlines with a gold pen from my stash.
For the background, I heat embossed the beautiful Folk Art Background onto an A2 panel of buttery yellow card stock using pearl embossing powder. I wanted something very subtle, just tone-on-tone with a bit of texture to create a tablecloth background. After I had popped up all of my different elements with dimensional adhesive, I heat embossed a greeting from Caffeine Crush using gold embossing powder onto a strip of card stock, then flagged the ends with my scissors.
The final step was to add a smattering of the beautiful Coral Necklace couture sequins mix along the card front for a touch of sparkle.
Now, it’s your turn! Use the beautiful Mood Board graphic to inspire your project using supplies from The Ton, then add the link to our link up on the July Challenge post. Your entry could win you a $50 credit to The Ton’s website! Have fun, and good luck!
