Good morning! Somehow, it’s already August 1, and that means it’s time for a new challenge for The Ton’s Challenge Blog! In an appropriate send off for the last month of summer, our challenge is:
Summer!
When I think of summer, I think of pretty skies, vacations, and fields of beautiful flowers. I thought I would combine them all in one card!
I started with a plain white A2 card base. I stamped the new Mountains set about halfway up the front using the Cocoa Collection, then blended some Cali Blue ink with my foam blending tool on the top of the card base to create my sky. I then die cut and stamped the gorgeous blooms from Fresh Cut Sunflowers using the Citrine collection inks and the leaves with the Crystal Garden inks. I stamped the fabulous (and summery!) greeting from Fresh Cut Sunflowers using Caviar ink. I adhered the pretty field of sunflowers to the bottom of the card using both dimensional and liquid adhesive. Looks like you were on a hiking trail looking out at a field of sunflowers at the foot of a mountain, right? I love when a card comes together in reality the same way it did in my head!
The next card is very similar in design, but when I think of summer, gorgeous sunsets also come to mind. So, instead of a clear, blue sky, I chose to use the beautiful inks from The Ton to create a sunset. I stamped the Mountains about 1/3 of the way up on my vertical, top-folding card base using the Pewter Collection, but I didn’t realize that I hadn’t cleaned my stamps between cards, so the color came out a little more brown than anticipated. Whoops! I also used the lighter two shades of the Pewter Collection to stamp the last two layers of the Fresh Cut Poppies stamps onto white die cuts in order to create a field of white poppies. The sky was created by masking the mountains with Post It notes and blending Iris Blooms, Soft Garnet, and Peach Blossom inks using my Clarity Stencil Brushes. I stamped the lovely (and appropriate!) sentiment from Large Peony 4 using Caviar ink.
Not what you would immediately think of when presented with a”summer” theme, but I knew the other Design Team girls had some fabulous beachy inspiration for you, so I wanted to show that you can use florals for a summer theme, too! I live in the Midwest, where beaches are few and far between. Far more likely to see a beautiful field of flowers than a palm tree haha!
Now, it’s your turn! You have until August 31 to come up with a “summer” themed project of your own to add to our link up. The winner of the challenge will receive a $50 shopping spree to The Ton Stamps! So pull out those Ton stamps and get inky! Good luck!
