Practicing white flowers.

Hi there! Hope you’re having a fabulous day. I’ve finally succumbed, guys. I couldn’t wait anymore… I had to stamp and color that gorgeous Magnolia stamp from the newest Hero Arts catalog. I thought about coloring this pretty magnolia a pale shade of pink, but I thought I would get some practice in with my white flowers and my Copic markers. For this project, I wanted to create a frame, but I didn’t want to add the extra bulk of die cutting one, so I decided to use some creative masking and blending to create my frame. Let’s get started!

For this project, I began by stamping the beautiful Woodblock Magnolia from Hero Arts onto some white, Copic friendly card stock using Intense Black ink. I then added some shading to the magnolia with some shades of light and medium gray, liberally using my colorless blender to soften the edges to keep the flower looking mostly white.

After I had finished coloring my magnolia, I die cut a mask with the coordinating frame cuts from some masking paper. I also trimmed a rectangle of masking paper. I first adhered the mask over the magnolia, then added the rectangular mask over that in approximately the center of the card front. I then used my blending tool to evenly blend some Hickory Smoke Oxide Ink around the edge of the card front. When I removed the masks, I had a nicely framed, colored image with a white center. Masks=magic!

For the greeting, I used the new Smile Stamp ‘n Cut from Hero Arts. I die cut the die three times, once from black card stock, and twice more from white card stock, then adhered them all together. I also stamped the rest of the greeting on some thin strips of card stock. I adhered them to the card front, popping up the sentiment strips with foam adhesive and adding a little gem to the dot on the i. The final touch was to use my T-square and a fine black marker to draw black lines on the interior of the white rectangle.
