Good morning! I am participating in another blog hop today, helping to introduce some new products from Art Impressions that are now available at Ellen Hutson! You should have arrived from Ardyth Percy-Robb‘s blog and your next stop is Sharon Harnist’s blog. Today, I chose to work with the new Halloween Magic set from Art Impressions…. I couldn’t resist that sweet little girl with her contented kitty! Art Impressions are fabulous for so many coloring mediums, and I wanted to try my hand at doing some watercoloring with Daniel Smith paints! Let’s get started with the details.
I began by stamping the darling little duo onto some Arches Cold Press Watercolor Paper using Versafine black ink, then clear embossing it. I then used my Daniel Smith paints to watercolor the cuties (I’ll list individual colors below). I have not practiced watercoloring animals very much, so I was a little concerned as to how this sweet feline would turn out. My childhood cat (who has one eye and is 15 years old) decided to go meandering about my mom’s neighborhood, and hadn’t been seen for a few days when the time came to paint this little guy… so I made an orange striped tabby in Benny’s honor. (He came back the day after I painted this, thank goodness!) I first added the solid color to his body, allowed it to dry completely, then added the stripes. Allowing the base color to dry let the lines of the stripes be a bit more crisp.
I added a quick wash of Moonglow around the edge of the little girl and her kitty, adding just a touch of color near the heat embossed lines, then using a very wet paintbrush to pull the color out, periodically cleaning my brush to pull the color out into an organic fade.
I added the “too cute to spook” greeting from the Halloween Magic set, then trimmed the panel down and matted it first on a black glitter panel, then on a medium gray A2 card base.
Well, that’s all for me today! Here’s the full hop list… there is some absolutely amazing inspiration to be had from all of these ladies!
