Good morning! Today, I’m happy to take part in a special blog hop from Spellbinders to help introduce their new Just Add Color line from Stephanie Low! You should have arrived here from my amazing friend Kelly Latevola’s blog, and your next stop is the super talented Yoonsun Hur’s blog!. This line is a group of lovely rubber stamps that are perfect for coloring in so many mediums! I used the Large Peony stamp set with a new-to-me medium, so let’s get started with the details!

I began by cutting a panel of Arches Cold Press watercolor paper down to A2 size. I then stamped the two largest peonies from Large Peony onto some masking paper and fussy cut them. I used Ink on 3 Fadeout Ink to stamp the two largest peonies on the watercolor paper, then covered them with the masks, and stamped a variety of foliage and smaller flowers to create a pretty swag in the bottom corner of the card.

Once I’d finished stamping all of the flowers and foliage, it was time to start coloring. I recently discovered the joy of using Distress Oxide inks for watercoloring. I’ve used regular Distress Inks for watercoloring previously, but if I’m honest, I’d rather use real watercolors to achieve a similar effect. The Oxide inks, however, are opaque, and so have a much different feel to them when used as paints. I used a combination of Tattered Rose, Picked Raspberry, and Dusty Concord for the pink peonies, and Spiced Marmalade, Picked Raspberry, and Dusty Concord for the orange flowers. The foliage were painted with Shabby Shutters and Lucky Clover. I always sing about the virtues of adding many layers of color to your coloring, and using Oxides is no exception to that. The inks move beautifully, even after they’ve dried (which can be good or bad, depending on how neat you are when watercoloring!), and their opacity creates a unique, almost velvety effect.

After I’d finished coloring the pretty flowers, I heat embossed a sentiment on a few strips of black card stock and added them to the card front, also adding a strip of black shimmer paper along the opposite side for a bit of contrast. The final touch was to add some jewels for a bit of sparkle.
Well, that’s all for me today! Now, for some fun giveaway information!

Lots of work and love went into this beautiful card and with the oxides it turned out so beautifully soft AND gorgeous!!
I’ve never used distress oxides because I didn’t like the thought of spending money on the same colors I already have. It’s good to know that one difference is the opacity.
Beautiful, Emily! Those flowers are so realistic! I’ll be trying Oxides on my next card!
