Hi there! Today, Altenew is releasing their new Paint-A-Flower: Himalayan Poppy stamp set, as well as some new coloring tools to add to your collection of mediums! You should have arrived here from Verity Biddlecombe, and your next stop is Daniel Diaz. You can also start back at the beginning at the Altenew Card Blog if you get lost. Here’s a peek at this month’s Paint-A-Flower stamp set:

Such a pretty set; those flowers are so large and so very fun to color! I’ve watercolored these blooms with the brand new Hawaiian Shores Brush and Fine Tip Pens for some lovely, vibrant color that was super quick and simple! Let’s get started with the details on my project for today.

I began by trimming down some Altenew Watercolor Paper to mini-slimline size, then stamping the floral image from the Paint-A-Flower: Himalayan Poppy using Obsidian ink and covering it with some pearlescent white embossing powder. The combination of the black pigment ink and the pearly white embossing powder creates a pretty pearlescent charcoal image, which is a bit softer than your typical black outline. Pearly metallics are always a winner in my book!

To do the painting for my image, I scribbled the brush end of the new Hawaiian Shores Brush and Fine Tip Pens on my ceramic palette, then used a damp paintbrush to pick up the color and apply it to my watercolor paper. Going from brush to palette to paper instead of putting the brush pen directly to the paper allows me to keep better control over the saturation of color. I colored the flowers a bright coral red, adding touches of yellow to the edges of the petals to add some sunny highlights. I made the bright red pop even more by adding a subtle complementary blue halo around the flowers.

While my image was drying, I die cut “hi” from some coordinating medium gray cardstock using the Classic Alphabet Die set, then heat embossed a greeting from Paint-A-Flower: Himalayan Poppy onto some more of the same gray cardstock using the black pigment/pearl embossing powder combination. I popped the die cut greeting up using a single layer of foam tape, then added the sentiment strip using a double layer of foam tape for even more dimension. The final touch was to add a trio of iridescent coral pearls for one last pop of color and shine.
Well, that’s all for my project today! Now for some fun giveaway information:
