Hi there! I am super excited to be joining my friends at Pinkfresh Studio for their December 2021 Release Blog Hop. As always, this new release is full of stunning new flowers and some fantastic dies. I am extra excited to be joining today, because I illustrated the set that I’m showcasing today for the Create and Connect virtual cardmaking event earlier this fall, and today it is available to everyone! Introducing: Cosmos Bunch!
I used this set to create a holiday-ish thank you card, with intense jewel red and crisp black and some beautiful, shiny red foil. And, after a long year of video silence, I have my first video for 2021!! (and probably my last… ha!) Watch below or you can click here to see the video on YouTube.
In case you can’t watch the video, I will give a brief explanation of how I created my project.
I started by stamping the Cosmos Bunch image on some plain white cardstock (yes, white!) using Hero Arts’s Contour Ink for no-line coloring. I used my Copic markers to color the image, coloring only the large cosmos blooms and the foliage, leaving the smaller filler flowers uncolored. Once I had completed the coloring, I used the coordinating Cosmos Bunch die to cut out the image, then used sharp scissors to cut away the sections with the small daisy filler flowers. I maintained a white border around the edge where I was trimming the flowers away. Because I wanted to create a seamless look from my black card base to my sentiment and floral die cut, I used a black Copic marker to color around the entire edge of the die cut. The addition of the black edge and the removal of the smaller flowers created a completely different look and shape to the original image!
Next, I used the Thank You So Much foil plate to do some hot foiling with my Gemini Jr. I used Hero Arts’s Pitch Black cardstock with some intense red Berry foil from Crafters’ Companion. The red foil on the black cardstock is just heavenly! I heated the plate using medium heat for 50 seconds on my Gemini foil system. I think next time I will heat it for a bit shorter time to hopefully avoid any over-foiling. Once my foiling was complete, I used the coordinating die to cut out my sentiment.
Once I had finished my coloring, foiling, and die cutting, it was time to assemble. I used some washi tape to hold my Cosmos Bunch die cut in place while I trimmed off the excess, then added the leftovers to the opposite corner of my Pitch Black card base using foam adhesive. I added the foiled die cut in the center of the A2 card front, then added a few green gems from Pinkfresh Studio for some sparkle.
