Hi friends! I realized recently that I never shared the projects that I created for the Hero Arts Spring 2023 Catalog here on my blog, and they were some of my favorite projects that I’ve done for Hero Arts! The project that I have for you today features one of my favorite things to do with hot foil: hot foiling on acetate, so let’s get started with the details.
Hot foiling is pretty much my favorite “trendy” thing. I think the level of polish that hot foil adds to a project really kicks it up to a completely new level, and there are so many fun techniques that you can do with it! I discovered awhile ago that the Hero Arts Acetate Sheets are hot foil-friendly. That is, you can use it with your hot foil plates! The best part is that the super smooth surface of the acetate basically guarantees a flawless impression of your hot foiled image.
I hot foiled the gorgeous Bold Graphic Hot Foil Plate from Hero Arts onto some Acetate using a dark gold satin foil from Spellbinders. The lines on this hot foil plate design are fairly thick, and the smooth surface of the acetate ensured that the image transferred beautifully.
Next, I die cut a couple of Daffodil Fancy Die die cuts from some plain white cardstock. To coordinate with the dark golden tones of the foil, I used my OLO markers to color the flowers a deep, almost mustard yellow (OLO markers YO2.7, 2.5, 2.3, and 2.2) which worked beautifully with the satin foil color. Starting with plain white die cuts for your standalone flower dies means that you can color them whatever colors you want-limited only by your imagination and your marker stash!
I trimmed the acetate panel down slightly and mounted it on a plain white A2 card base, dabbing small dots of liquid adhesive behind the solid foiled areas and leaving a thin white frame around the outer edge. I trimmed down a rectangle of Hero Arts’s Vellum Layering Paper, then arranged my daffodils and a black die cut “thinking of you” sentiment over the top of the vellum before adhering. I adhered the daffodils and sentiment to the vellum panel, then flipped it over and added tiny dots of adhesive to the back of the solid die cuts. This allowed me to hide the adhesive and keep the transparent vellum pristine! You have to be a little tricky with transparent papers, but I think they make such a huge impact on your cards.
