Hi friends! Today, I am sharing a (slightly later than intended) second volume of Man Card Monday for the month of February! I can always use masculine/gender neutral birthday cards, whether they are for adult men or little boys, and the new Birthday Bash stamp from the Simon Says Stamp Splendor release was absolutely perfect for a simple, masculine birthday card. I paired it with a couple of other new products from the new release and some vivid Rainbow Splash inks, so let’s get started with the details!
I began by stamping the birthday cake from the Birthday Bash stamp set using black pigment ink and clear embossing over the top. I love how crisp the lines look when you take the extra step to clear emboss over the black stamped image! I then paired the Birthday Bash Stencil with some gorgeous inks from the Rainbow Splash ink line: Lake, Lime, and Dandelion, creating a vibrant cake. I accented the chocolate “drip” on top of the cake with some sparkling glitter watercolors from my stash. I can’t help but add glitter to make things extra festive, even for a supposedly masculine project! Once I had finished creating the image, I used my scissors to cut the cake out.
For the background, I blended some Lake and Lime ink on my white card front using some of the new Rainbow Splash blending brushes. I placed the Twinkle Stars stencil over my blended area and blended the same Lake and Lime ink over my green and blue background halo, creating a tone-on-tone background pattern. Once I had created my pattern, I splattered some of the same glittering watercolor onto the panel. I think the combination of ink blending, stenciling, and sparkly splatter creates a magical effect, perfect for a birthday card!
For the greeting, I stamped a sentiment from the new Birthday Basics stamp set, again using the black pigment ink with clear embossing powder combination. I used the coordinating die to die cut the sentiment. I love how neat and tidy these die cut sentiments look! I popped up the birthday cake with some foam squares over the blended and stenciled background, then popped up the greeting with a double layer of foam squares to help it pop even more from the background. Finally, I added a few Clear Pawsitively Dazzling Gems for extra sparkle!
