I seem to frequently turn to warm, sunny colors towards the end of summer, perhaps transitioning to the warm tones in the autumn but still wanting the brightness of summer while we have these warm temperatures. Let’s get started with the details on my projects!
I kept the colors for my projects bright and sunny, with pops of crisp white and deep green foliage, adding lots of texture behind the main focal points.
For my first project, I used the Craft A Flower: Dahlia April Heather to create a lovely summertime bouquet of dahlias with a warm and sunny color palette. I die cut the background petal layers from sunny yellow cardstock and used Chamomile ink to blend around the edges and add extra dimension and shape to the petals. I die cut the center petals from some lighter tangerine cardstock and blended Snapdragon ink on the center of the die cuts, slackening my pressure towards the edges. I also die cut the foliage from some beautiful jewel green cardstock and blended Green Opal Fresh Dye Ink along the edges to add some extra dimension.
After blending and assembling the components for each flower, I ran a panel of white cardstock through my die cut machine using the Floral Diamond Blocks embossing folder. I thought that the floral motif reminded me quite a bit of sunflowers, which worked perfectly with my color palette! I heat embossed a greeting from the new Tranquil Greetings stamps and dies using gold embossing powder and die cut it. I arranged the flowers to cover a large portion of the embossed background, adhering them with foam adhesive. I added the greeting with a double layer of foam adhesive to help it stand out from the background, tucking a rustic twine bow beneath the sentiment. Finally, I added a few shimmering gems for extra sparkle!
For my second card, I kept the same color palette, this time creating an almost Art Deco-inspired project. I thought that the daisies in the new Whimsical Flower Vine dies were reminiscent of Art Deco graphics, and so I decided to use one of the bouquets as a focal point for my project, surrounded by a frame. I cut the flowers and foliage using the same sunny yellow and jewel green cardstock, blending the edges with coordinating inks to create extra dimension. I also die cut a delicate brown diamond using the Fine Frames Diamond die set.
For the background, I trimmed down a panel of A2 letterpress paper by 1/8″ on all sides, then ran it through my Better Press system with the Better Press Rustic Burlap press plate without inking it up. Using the Press Plates without ink creates lovely texture without adding any extra color to the background. I mounted the textured background panel onto a piece of coordinating light orange cardstock, which created a very thin colored mat around the edges of the card. I adhered the delicate diamond frame die cut in the center of the textured background with liquid adhesive, then added another gold embossed greeting from the new Tranquil Greetings stamps and dies. The final touch was a few sparkling gems!
For this collection, Altenew has also released a stunning new collection of Crafty Necessities colored cardstocks with some gorgeous new shades that coordinate beautifully with their Fresh Dye Ink line. What crafter doesn’t love to have coordinating colored products? I have lots of projects coming up using these beautiful and unique new colors! We also are being graced with fabulous new Fresh Dye Ink colors that are simply marvelous. Sadly, I didn’t receive these inks in time to use them for these projects, but you can be sure to see them in upcoming projects!
