Hi friends! I have a new Fun with Felt project to share with you today using one of the beautiful new floral die sets from the Simon Says Stamp Rain or Shine release. With my newfound textile interests, I am always on the lookout for fun ways to apply my papercrafting tools and supplies to this crafty area, and as soon as I saw the new Snowbell Bouquet die set, I knew that I wanted to pair it with some pretty colors of felt to create a piece of springtime decor. You might have seen a sneak peek of this project if you watched the Livestream on the Simon Says Stamp YouTube earlier this week. (Side note: if you don’t watch those livestreams, I encourage you to do so, because it’s a great way to see the products in more accurate proportions and used on tons of projects, and as an added bonus, they usually have some sort of fabulous giveaway during the live!! Such fun!) Let’s get started with the details on my project!

To begin, I placed some gorgeous periwinkle blue fabric inside a 5″ embroidery hoop to create my vivid background for my floral bouquet. I then used the Snowbell Bouquet dies to die cut the different elements from felt. I used two different shades of jade green felt for the foliage, cutting some extra leaves to help fill in any bare spots. For the flowers, I used some fun iridescent white glitter felt for the blooms which I already had in my stash.
While I have been honing my embroidery skills over the last few months, my favorite thing about felt is that you can still achieve that tactile textile sensation that you get with embroidery, but you don’t have to actually sew if you don’t want to or don’t have that skill set. It’s very similar to working with dies, paper, and glue, just with a bit less sturdy a medium and a different type of glue! I used the felt glue to assemble the multi-layer blooms off to the side of my project, placing them under a glass paperweight during drying to keep things nice and flat. After they were dry, I began arranging the die cuts on my embroidery hoop and used Felt Glue to adhere the pieces. I again used the glass paperweight to keep things flat while drying.
To finish up the project, I flipped the hoop over and used a hot glue gun to adhere the flap around the edges of the interior hoop, then added a coordinating minty velvet bow with the glue gun for a little added decoration. I contemplated adding some bling, but thought that the velvet bow and the glittery snowbells were glitzy and luxe enough.
