Simon Says Stamp In My Heart Blog Hop Day 2 + Giveaway + Free Gift!

I have two projects to share with you today, one featuring my latest illustration, called Wild Rose (click HERE to see the whole set!) and a coordinating card using some fabulous new dies from the In My Heart release. Let’s get started with the details on my projects!

My new Wild Rose stamp set features two large and lush bouquets of wild roses, made even more substantial with eucalyptus leaves and some dainty filler flowers. I have been itching to do some no-line coloring with these pretty blooms since I illustrated them, and so I selected a frame from my stash of dollar store frames and started ruminating on a color palette! To create a panel that would fit inside my arched frame, I removed the backer from my frame and used it as a template to cut out my panel of Hammermill cardstock so that it would fit perfectly within my uniquely-shaped frame.

I began by stamping the bouquets from Wild Rose onto my trimmed, arched cardstock panel using Inkon3 Fadeout Ink. Before I began coloring, I used a blending brush to lightly blend Cheeky Pawsitively Saturated Ink around the edges of the panel, creating a soft glow. Because I had used such a light ink and blended softly, I was able to easily color over the top of the peachy glow with vibrant coral-red OLO Markers. I colored all of the images with those vibrant, juicy markers, then used colored pencils to add some extra shadows on the large blooms, creating tons of dimension and depth with these pretty flowers!

Once I had finished coloring all of the flowers and adding the pencil details, I added some gold gel pen to the stamens of each bloom, adding a touch of luxury to this pretty floral background! I mounted the finished piece in the arched frame, creating a unique and colorful piece of home decor!

Because this framed piece of artwork would be a great gift, I decided to create a coordinating card to go along with it in the same color palette. I began by die cutting a matching black frame, cutting the new Scalloped Arches from So Very Black cardstock, and a coordinating frame using the new Scalloped Arches Frames from black glitter cardstock. I adhered the glittery frame to the solid scalloped die cut with liquid adhesive, then added these to the center of my A2 panel of So Very Black cardstock using thin foam adhesive squares, creating a tone-on-tone background for my die cut floral focal point!

For my focal point, I die cut the florals from new Jaunty Stem from coordinating coral-red cardstock and used vibrant jade green cardstock to die cut the foliage. To create a lush bouquet, I die cut several of each, then arranged them on my scalloped arch die cut, adhering some with foam adhesive and tucking others behind with liquid adhesive. I created a simple sentiment using one of the pretty greetings from Wild Rose, which I heat embossed on black cardstock using white embossing powder and die cut with its coordinating die. I popped the sentiment up over the base of the bouquet, then tucked a black twine bow beneath, “tying” the stems together! I added some black glitter ovals to the centers of the Jaunty Stem florals, then added one last sparkling touch with some Black Pawsitively Dazzling Gems. I just love how those vibrant coral-red blooms pop from the black background!!

Funny as soon as I first saw the new collection a couple of days ago your name popped into my head knowing you would do some spectacular coloring with the Wild Rose stamps, your coloring skills are always phenomena so I knew something special was coming . . and it was. As beautiful as your framed & colored project is you really hooked me with your black card !! The moody black is so dramatic with the pop of red, ABSOLUTELY gorgeous card. As per always, your projects did NOT disappoint, each one is stunning in it’s own way.

  62. I’ve created a card with red flowers on a black background too. But I used an embossing folder, rather than a die cut frame. I didn’t see your twine bow until I zoomed in on my phone. Nice touch!
