Hi friends! Yesterday’s post was all about grads and retiring teachers, but I also created two projects to share with you that are perfect to accompany those end-of-year teacher gifts. I have two little boys in kindergarten and two sixth graders, and I am always impressed at how the teachers can take their somewhat utilitarian classrooms and turn them into inviting, colorful spaces that are inspiring for the kiddos. I thought I’d channel those vibrant colors into a card using an older stencil set from Simon Says Stamp, called Happy Rainbow. This huge stencil set (6×9!) creates a rainbow large enough that you can use it for two different cards! Let’s get started with today’s project!
To begin my project, I trimmed down a panel of 5.5″ x 9″ cardstock to acommodate the full size of the Happy Rainbow stencil set. I placed the cardstock panel on my stencil station, which keeps the cardstock in place while I’m doing my blending! I then used blending brushes to blend Pawsitively Saturated Inks in shades of Apple, Cantaloupe, Melon, Butter, Dublin, Cadette, Clematis with each stencil layer, using Post-It Notes to mask off each arch so that the colors would be distinct. I then used a blending brush with black ink to add the little extra details over the top, creating a bold boho-style rainbow that is so cheerful and fun!
Once I had finished blending the entire large rainbow. I cut it in half and saved one side for another project, then used my sharp scissors to fussy cut the other half so that I could pop it up on a Simon Says Stamp So Very Black A2 card front. I also used a black pigment pen to add some little details to the different layers of the rainbow, adding whimsical scrolls and scallops, dots and lines.
Once I had finished embellishing the card front, I die cut the detail layer from Thank You, Teacher from some more So Very Black cardstock, then added a vellum shadow behind it with liquid adhesive. I popped that die cut up with more thin foam adhesive squares cut to size then tucked a sentiment strip from Back to School next to it. Finally, I added a few Black Pawsitively Dazzling Gems for a bit of extra sparkle. I think this would be so cute with a fun teacher gift or a gift card.
