Blooming Christmas with Ellen Hutson!

Good morning! Have you seen the holiday card series going on over at Ellen Hutson’s blog? This week, the Design Ambassadors are giving you oodles of holiday inspiration! Today’s focus: holiday florals. My bread and butter. Florals are eeeeeverywhere, and the holidays this year are no exception. Anemones, roses, berries, and that most classic of holiday florals… the poinsettia. I’ve created a card and a tag using Altenew’s Festive Poinsettia stamp and die set for today’s post, so let’s get started with the details!

I began by stamping the main image from Festive Poinsettia onto a panel of Arches cold press watercolor paper using Ink On 3 Fadeout Ink. I then used my Daniel Smith watercolors to do some no-line watercoloring, using Alizarin Crimson, Jadeite Genuine, and Shadow Violet. I stamped and heat embossed a greeting from Festive Poinsettia onto some black card stock strips and adhered them to the card front.

For the tag, I die cut and stamped the rectangular frame from Altenew’s Geo Frames onto some black card stock using Silver Delicata ink. I also die cut and stamped another poinsettia from the Festive Poinsettia and did some more no-line watercoloring, then adhered it to the tag with dimensional adhesive. I stamped and heat embossed the “joy” from Festive Poinsettia  onto another strip of black card stock and adhered it to the front of the tag. I punched a hole in the top and threaded some twine through to create the tag!

Spellbinders Zenspired Holidays Inspiration!

Good morning! After an invigorating weekend away with some dear friends, I am back today with a new blog post using some lovely new holiday goodies from Spellbinders! I was lucky enough to play with the new Christmas Sentiments and Dangling Ornaments stamp sets from the Zenspirations collection by Spellbinders. Let’s get started with the details!

I started by heat embossing the ornaments from the Dangling Ornaments stamp set onto some Arches cold press watercolor paper using Brass embossing powder. I like the richer tones of the Brass when compared to plain gold… just adds a little extra depth to the color scheme. I then used the Hero Arts Liquid Watercolors in shades of Pine, Strawberry, Deep Ocean Liquid Watercolors to color each of the ornaments in a super traditional color scheme. The ornament stamps reminded me very much of those beautiful vintage ornaments that my great-grandmother had on her Christmas tree, and I couldn’t resist painting them with those bright, primary colors.

For the background, I used Mowed Lawn, Barn Door, and Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide inks to create a background that reminds me of old, ceramic, multi-colored Christmas lights. I diluted a dab of the new Hero Arts Bronze Glimmer Paints with a bit of water, then splattered it onto the blended background. I fussy cut the watercolored ornaments, then adhered them to the blended card front using dimensional adhesive. I heat embossed the greeting from  Christmas Sentiments onto a strip of vellum, then folded the edges over the bottom of the card front to “hide” the strips of adhesive. 

I mounted the whole front panel on an A2 card base.

Where Creativity Meets C9 October Edition!

Good morning! Today is the 9th, which means that we have a new Concord and 9th release and a new challenge for you on the Where Creativity Meets C9 blog! This month’s challenge is Layers… so many ways to interpret that prompt. Love it! Here’s my take on it:

I used the Snowflakes Turnabout that was released last month to do some stamping and pearlized embossing. Have you tried using Distress Oxide inks to stamp and emboss? The effect is really lovely, and you suddenly have a huge stash of colored embossing powder in your stash! I love pairing the Oxides with pearl embossing powder. I stamped the Turnabout twice, once with Blueprint Sketch, rotated it 180*, then stamped again with Lilac Shadow and added the Pearl Embossing Powder. It creates such a lovely color in combination with the Oxide inks.

 

Next, I die cut a large glitter snowflake using the Snow Flurry dies. I added them to the sides of the snowflake panel, adhering them with liquid adhesive. I stamped a greeting from the Snowflake Turnabout using Blueprint Sketch Oxide ink, embossing it with the same pearl embossing powder, then trimmed the panel and popped it up on the snowflake card front using dimensional foam adhesive.

A few Amethyst crystals from Pretty Pink Posh finished it off.

Ellen Hutson October Release!

 

Good morning! I hope your World Card Making Day festivities yesterday were a huge bundle of fun. I got to spend some time in my craft room before doing some belated birthday celebrating with my in-laws, so that was a pleasant day… crafting, and homemade apple pie (extra thick crust) and ice cream! Yum! Today, I am excited to be helping introduce the newest products for the Essentials By Ellen line. We have some fantastic holiday items, as well as some new Leading Ladies that are just so much fun. Here’s a peek at the lineup:

I have a new project coming out later this week with the darling Bookworm Lady stamps and dies (with perhaps a special video, ahem, so be on the lookout), so for the release today, I thought I’d do a holiday card using the new Holiday Shopper Lady. Let’s get started with the details!

I began by die cutting and stamping the Holiday Shopper Lady with Memento Black Tuxedo ink onto some Copic-friendly white card stock. Next, I colored her in a vibrant pink top that has just enough raspberry tone to make it holiday-ish, at least in my mind haha! I love deep magenta, aqua, and white with touches of sparkly or shiny silver for holiday decor, so that’s the color scheme that I went with today. I colored her and her accessories using a multitude of Copic markers, which I’ll list at the end of the post.

After my Copic coloring was complete, I worked on the rest of my little holiday scene. I began by die cutting a large Christmas tree from Hero Arts using some silvery green card stock, then blended some Peacock Feathers Oxide ink around the edge to add a bit of interest and depth to the visually flat die cut. I also created a little shaker “window” using the new Winter Windows die. I backed the shaker with some pretty aqua card stock (to fit my theme), then filled it with a few different kinds of glitter from my stash to create a sparkly, snowy scene.

I assembled all of the die cuts on my A2 card front, attaching them with liquid adhesive, single, and double layers of foam tape to add lots of dimension. The final touch was to add some white Nuvo drops for some Christmas tree baubles. So much dimension, so many textures, so many elements to this card. I’m not going to lie, I don’t usually create scenes like this, but putting together all of the elements was somewhat cathartic for me…. like putting together a puzzle! And she looks so satisfied to be finished with all of her Christmas wrapping haha!

Nostalgic Holiday Cards…

Make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And when they’re easily mass-produced, well, that just makes life so much easier, right? I have a cute little card for you today that was inspired by one of those beautiful ceramic holiday villages that used to grace the top of my Grammy’s credenza when I was younger. It was always so beautifully, pristinely white, so I tried to recreate it as best I could with the new Neighborhood Paper Layering dies from the Season of Wonder Holiday Catalog from Hero Arts. Super simple, and would be a great mass-produced holiday card! Let’s get started with the details!

I began by die cutting just the interior of the two dies. The die set comes with the option to die cut around the edge of the detailed central die, allowing for a full die cut, or you can simply die cut the center portion and leave the rest of the card front as is. I die cut the detailed portion from some white card stock, then popped out all of the windows and doors to create a sweet little village scene. I then stamped the greeting from Ski Holiday using Navy ink. Next, I added some foam tape to the back, taking care not to cover any windows or doors, and backed this piece with an A2 panel of Pool Layering Paper for a cool, wintry effect.

The final touch was to add some Nuvo Snowfall Glitter Accents to add some extra texture and further enhance that overall icy, wintry feel.

Well, that’s all for me today! Wouldn’t this card be so great for mass production? Leave off the foam tape and use regular adhesive and it would be super easy to mail, as well! Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a marvelous day!
