Darling Dahlias+Giveaway!

Hi there! Today is a special-ish day for me… it’s my 35th birthday today! This covid-quarantine-birthday with two babies and two medium-sized kiddos is definitely not how I imagined spending my 35th birthday, but we’re gonna make the best of it grilling out and some yummy homemade apple pie! (My hubby makes it for me with extra thick crust. Yummm.) This has been quite a transformative year for me in many ways, including my newfound interest in drawing and stamp illustration! I am so grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve been lucky enough to have over the last year, not the least of which is illustrating six different stamp sets for Honey Bee Stamps! (I’ll link them all at the bottom of the post in case you want to check them out. 😉 ) Today’s card is using one of my newest sets: Darling Dahlias.

I used both watercolors and Copics to color my card sets from last week, so I thought for today’s card, I would do some pencil coloring. The images in the Darling Dahlias set are nice and large and great for use with colored pencils. Let’s get started with the details!

I began by stamping the blooms and foliage on some emerald green cardstock using white pigment ink. I find that the white pigment ink disappears into the pencil coloring quite seamlessly, so I tend to use that for my no-line pencil coloring on colored cardstock.

I love using Caran D’Ache Luminance colored pencils to add really vibrant pencil coloring to my colored card stock. I colored the images, then used the coordinating Honey Cuts to die cut the finished images out.

I stamped an emerald green background panel using the Farmhouse Check background stamp and some darker green ink, then arranged the Darling Dahlias in a swag and adhered them on the checkered background panel using foam adhesive. I added a greeting using sentiment dies from the new Slimline Blanket Sentiments and some gems for sparkle.

Altenew November Stamp+Die Release+Giveaway!

Hi there! I’m so excited to be taking part in Altenew’s November Stamp and Die Release Blog Hop! You should have arrived here from Caly Person and your next stop is Kymona Tracey. You can also start at the beginning if you have gotten lost! There are some beautiful new products available for purchase, and I have two projects to share today, so let’s get started with the details!

For my first project, I used the new Mix and Match Mariposa dies and some watercoloring to create this ethereal project! I began by taping a panel of watercolor paper down to my board, then painted a pretty ombre wash from peach to plum, adding some artistic splatters and spritzing it with Iridescent Shimmer Spray from Altenew.

Next, I die cut several of the detailed butterflies from the Mix and Match Mariposa from some heavyweight vellum. I trimmed down the watercolored panel after it had dried and mounted it on a panel of coral cardstock. I also die cut a Handwritten Hello from some glittery white cardstock.

I adhered the butterflies and hello die cut on the watercolored panel, popping up the butterfly wings a little to add extra dimension. The final touch was to add some pretty jewels in various sizes to draw the eye down the card front!

For my second project, I used the beautiful new Poppy Garden stamps and dies. I began by stamping several of the images from the Poppy Garden set on some white Copic-friendly cardstock. I then colored the images using shades of deep red and plum with some bright lime green leaves. I used the coordinating dies to die cut all of the colored images.

I love using white on white for elegant textured backgrounds, especially when paired with a brightly colored bouquet. I die cut the Layered Plaid Cover Plate B Die from some plain white cardstock and adhered it to a white A2 card base. I arranged the floral die cuts in a bouquet, then adhered the bouquet using foam adhesive for extra dimension.

I die cut the thicker Handwritten Hello die using some more white cardstock. I adhered the die cut to the bouquet. I love the contrast of the bright white sentiment over the brightly colored flowers. I added a few gems for a bit of sparkle.

Altenew July Stencil Release Blog Hop+ Giveaway!

Hi there! Today, I’m thrilled to be taking part in another fabulous Altenew Stencil Release and blog hop. Today’s release is all about stencils. Stencils are such a fantastically versatile tool to have in your arsenal; you can use them in countless ways, with so many different tools and mediums. I have two projects to show you today, so let’s get started with the details! Be sure to read all the way to the end to get the fabulous giveaway information!

I’ve been all about making card sets that “coordinate” of late… Color has always been my starting point for creating; my brain sees the color combination first, and so I try to apply that color combination to a variety of styles and products. For today’s stencil release, I’ve created two projects using a beautiful fuchsia, amethyst, and muted gray color scheme, combining the new Diamond Builder stencil and the Doily Frame stencil with some older Altenew favorites. Let’s get started with the details! 

For this super graphic and bold project, I began by blending the multi-layered Diamond Builder stencil using Moon Rock, Ultraviolet, Lavender Fields, and Magenta on some Pebble card stock from Hero Arts. This stencil creates such a unique background. By simply turning the stencil and flipping it over, you create a fun, super graphic pattern. It did take me a few practice runs to get the exact right combination of flips and turns, but I had such fun that I didn’t even mind! It was like magic watching the pattern come to life! After I’d finished blending the background pattern using blending brushes, I put together some bold (and somewhat unnatural-looking haha) flowers using the Wild Rose layered dies and some coordinating colored card stock. 

I arranged the flowers and foliage in a little swag, then die cut a large Hello from some black glitter paper, adhering it to a rectangle of vellum to help soften the bold pattern behind it. I popped up all of the die cuts using foam adhesive, then added a few gems to add a bit of sparkle. 

For my second project, I kept to the same color purple, pink, and gray color scheme, this time with a much more subtle pattern. I began by placing the new Doily Frame stencil and the interior insert on an A2 panel of Pebble card stock, then blended Moon Rock and Ultraviolet inks using blending brushes to create a muted purple. I also stamped a rose swag from the recently released Always and Forever stamp set using white ink, again on Pebble card stock. I wanted to stay true to my chosen color scheme, not wanting to have that annoying white border that comes with having your image on white card stock. Coloring the beautiful rose image using colored pencils on the gray card stock helped to seamlessly add the die cut image to my card front without compromising my color scheme! 

After I’d finished coloring the image with my Luminance colored pencils, I die cut the swag with the coordinating dies, then trimmed it in half. I also trimmed a bit off the edge of my stenciled panel, then added a strip of charcoal and a strip of pink glitter paper to the edge to add some extra contrast. I mounted the penciled die cut on the doily using foam tape, along with a sentiment from the Sentiment Strips stamp set that I’d heat embossed on a strip of purple card stock. The final touch was to add some gems for sparkle!

Altenew June 2019 Standalone Die Release Blog Hop

Hi there! Today is Altenew’s June Standalone Die blog hop, and I am so excited to be a stop on the hop! You should have arrived from Maryam Perez‘s blog, and your next stop is Kelly Janes‘s blog. Altenew’s standalone dies are so unique; this die release is no exception! I have two cards to share with you today, as well as some giveaway information, so let’s get started!

I love creating unique color combinations with mustard; it’s one of those unexpected colors that looks so meh when it’s all alone, but add it to the right color combination and it is so unique and pretty! Today’s projects are an homage to mustard and plum (which reminds me of Clue, for some reason), and I’m so excited to share these projects with you!

For my first project today, I wanted to showcase the beautiful new Delicate Mandala die. It’s a huge die, and super detailed; perfect for using as a doily behind a floral arrangement! I began by stamping several of the blooms and foliage from the oldie-but-goodie A Beautiful Day stamp set on watercolor paper using Altenew’s Enchanted Gold ink and clear embossing over the top. I then watercolored the gorgeous florals using my Daniel Smith watercolors, keeping to a plum, mustard, and jade green color scheme.

Once my flowers were finished, I die cut the beautiful new Delicate Mandala die from some golden vellum that I found in my paper stash/hoard (ha!), adhering it to the corner of my Plum card front and trimming the excess off of the edges.

I arranged the floral die cuts in a nice full arrangement, then adhered them to the floral mandala using foam adhesive and added a gold embossed sentiment on a strip of mustard card stock. The final touch was a few jewels for sparkle.

For my second project today, I used the absolutely stunning new Virginia Rose die set. It’s another fantastic layering die that creates beautiful, substantial die cut blooms that look so realistic… no stamping required! You could use these with colored card stock, watercolor your own card stock and then die cut, or even use the layering inks from Altenew to blend colored card stock and die cut from that!

For today’s project, I chose to use some beautiful Hero Hues card stock that I have, and the combination of the Canary, Mustard, and Papaya card stocks made for some beautiful yellow blooms, adding in some foliage cut from Kiwi and Pesto card stocks. The layering guide included with the Virginia Rose die set made layering easy as pie!

For the card base, I used another A2 panel of Plum card stock. I die cut a mask from some masking paper using the Delicate Mandala die, adhered it to the Plum card stock in the corner, then spritzed the Altenew Antique Gold shimmer spray and removed the mask. The result was a subtle, artistic pattern on the background of the card front, the perfect foil for the precise and detailed die cut flowers.

I popped all of the die cuts up with foam adhesive, then added a few jewels for a bit of sparkle and some extra texture!

Hero Arts 45th Anniversary Blog Hop+Giveaway, Day 1!

Hi there! Hero Arts is turning 45 this year, and we are celebrating with a giant, three day blog hop chock full of fantastic inspiration using new and old catalog products, and masses of prizes from so many sponsors… you’re not going to want to miss anything! To celebrate their 45th anniversary, Hero Arts released several “new” stamp sets that contain compilations of images from their older releases. There is such a wide variety of styles and images in this catalog…. it’s fun to see how styles have changed over 45 years in the crafting business! My project today is an anniversary card using the darling little bear from From the Vault Cute Animals and a new anniversary die, along with some ink blending using some of the new Reactive Inks (seriously, these inks are SO fun.) Let’s get started with all of the details on how I created my project!

To start, I stamped the adorable little teddy bear from From the Vault Cute Animals on some white card stock using Intense Black ink, then colored it with my Copic markers and die cut it with the coordinating frame cuts. I also die cut a white tag and stamped a greeting on it from Mix and Match Compliments at a slight angle.

Next, I used the new Fruit Punch Reactive Ink to create some custom colored paper. I wanted a coral-red shade of card stock to match the cheerful, almost hibiscus red of the teddy bear’s heart, so I blended the Fruit Punch Reactive Ink on some plain white card stock using a blending tool (this stuff blends like butter… so smooth), then used that panel of custom card stock to do some die cutting. I first die cut the new anniversary die, then did a partial cut of the Heart Confetti cover plate die to create some little hearts that perfectly matched my color scheme. (Yes, I’m crazy enough to care about such things.)

I then layered all of the die cuts on an A2 Pebble card base in keeping with my gray, white, and bright red color scheme. I first adhered the white tag with foam adhesive after I’d added a red twine bow to the top of the tag. I added the teddy and the die cut anniversary with some more foam tape, adding a few little accents of the matching red hearts, some sequins, and some white Nuvo drops for added textural difference.
