One Die + Specialty Papers = Two Unique Cards with Simon Says Stamp!

April 21, 2026

Hi friends! I have another two-fer for you today using a gorgeous newer cover plate die from Simon Says Stamp! The beautiful Floral Birdscape cover plate die lends itself so beautifully to a die cut inlay technique, and when you pair it with some gorgeous specialty papers and a fun top-fold design, you can create this elegant pair of projects super quickly. Let’s get started with the details on my projects!

My main ingredient for both of these projects was the Floral Birdscape die cuts, using both the positive and negative die cuts so that nothing went to waste! The positive die cuts also feature some gorgeous debossed details, making them even more special and that much easier to use as a focal point for another project! I never tire of the stunning Rose Gold Metallic cardstock from Simon Says Stamp, and paired with a blush or peachy color palette is pure perfection.

For my first project, I used the negative die cut created with the Floral Birdscape die, cutting it once from the Rose Gold Metallic cardstock and once from Simon Says Stamp’s new Seashell cardstock. I made sure to reserve the die cut pieces for my second project. Before adhering my cover plate die cut to my card front, I decided to create a unique top-fold card using an A2 panel of Apricot cardstock for the back and a panel of vellum for the front, cut to 4.25″ x 6″ and scored along the top at 1/2″. I adhered the vellum to the Apricot panel to create this fun card with a semi-transparent front that would allow that pretty peach back to come through very subtly! To the vellum, I adhered the shining rose gold cover plate die cut with liquid adhesive, tucking the large Seashell bird die cut in it’s proper spot, as well.

Here’s a shot of the card when opened up. The area behind the bird is the perfect spot for writing a message to your recipient without it marring the pretty card front!

For the greeting, I heat embossed a simple thank you sentiment from the Wild & Free Flowers stamp set using Copper embossing powder onto more Apricot cardstock, die cutting the scripty “thank you” with it’s coordinating die. I popped these sentiment pieces onto the card front with some thin foam adhesive squares, then added a pretty bow and some Peachy Pawsitively Dazzling Gems for a bit of extra texture! I think this creates such a fun and unusual project.

For my second project, I used the leftover positive die cuts from the Floral Birdscape die to create a patterned card front. First, I created the A2 card base itself, this time with Seashell cardstock for the back and a 4 1/4″ x 6″ panel of acetate, scored at 1/2″ and adhered to the Seashell panel with strong tape to create a top fold card with an acetate front! To ensure correct placement for my die cuts, I used some low-tack tape to temporarily add the leftover Seashell cover plate die cut on the acetate card front, then adhered each remaining positive die cut in it’s appropriate negative space. Once these die cuts had dried, I removed the tape and the cover plate die cut to reveal each positive die cut in exactly the right place!

For the greeting, I used the Small Thanks stamp set from CZ Design, embossing the two greeting stamps onto Seashell cardstock using Copper embossing powder and die cutting the larger with it’s coordinating die. I popped them up on the card front with thin foam adhesive squares, then added a slim velvet ribbon bow and some sparkling Peachy Pawsitively Dazzling Gems for added sparkle. I just love how unique this card is, and you can easily write a small message behind the generously-sized bird die cut! Such a fun departure from our normal cards, I think!

Well, that’s all for my projects today. I am having a hyperfixation on the beautiful Apricot and Seashell cardstocks from the In My Heart release! (Click HERE to see the entire new release!), so be prepared to see lots more peachy, blushy color palettes with these gorgeous colors. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a marvelous day!

Deco Foil + Deco Foil Gel + NEW Simon Says Stamp Stencils!

March 21, 2024

This post was sponsored by Simon Says Stamp. Thanks, Simon!

Hi friends! The new Simon Says Stamp Be Bold release is available, and it’s such a stunner! I am always especially intrigued when companies release new tools, and so was very eager to play with the new Deco Foil foil sheets in lovely metallic shades. These new foil sheets work specifically with toner-printed images, like those on the Mom Foil Transfer Cards, or with foil-reactive gel, like the Decofoil Gel. I employed both uses for this project, and I am so pleased with the results! Let’s get started with the details on my project.

I first used Decofoil Gel for THIS project and loved the results so much that I wanted to experiment to see what else I could create! I decided to try it out on a panel of acetate to create really unique look, pairing it with the new Lattice Tile stencil for an elegant background. I started by adhering my A2 panel of heat resistant acetate to a piece of scratch paper (I didn’t want to use one of the stamp mats that I normally use with stencils so as to avoid marring it with the gel… wasn’t sure how well it would clean off of the photopolymer!) then placed the Lattice Tile stencil over the top and used a palette knife to apply the Decofoil Gel. Unlike my previous project using this gel, which took about an hour to dry on regular cardstock, something about the combination of the acetate and the gel made it take longer to dry. I allowed the panel to sit for a full 24 hours so that it was completely dry before using it with foil.

After the gel was completely dry, I used the new Simon Says Stamp Bronze Decofoil with my Minc machine to add luxurious shine to the acetate panel. I absolutely love the results! I think next time I will select a stencil that has more open areas so that the unique clear spots would be more readily visible. While I had my Minc out and hot, I foiled a couple of the Mom Foil Transfer Cards with Bronze Decofoil so that the two foiled pieces would coordinate beautifully!

I find that a pretty, simple, repetitive pattern is a great backdrop for flowers, and of course couldn’t wait to dive into the beautiful florals int he Wild & Free Flowers set. I stamped the large single flower with Contour Ink, then used Copic markers to color the flowers a lush blue, almost like something out of a fairytale. For the flower stamens, I used some handmade glitter watercolors in a coordinating shade of bronze, tying the three main design elements together. I die cut the flower with the super intricate coordinating die. I absolutely adore dies like this that are super detailed!

To accent the flower, I die cut a set of the A2 Nesting Frames from some iridescent white mirror cardstock, trimming down my foiled acetate panel so that it would fit perfectly behind one of the frames. I popped this frame up on an A2 card front using some foam adhesive strips, which were the perfect width for the frames in the A2 Nesting Frames set. I arranged the colorful flower and foiled sentiments on the foiled background, popping them up with another layer of foam adhesive for lots of dimension. Finally, I added a white bow and a few new Royal Pawsitively Dazzling Gems.

SO much sparkle and shine on this card. I can’t wait to play more with this technique! Thanks so much for stopping by today, and be sure to check out the new Be Bold release. There’s a blog hop on Friday and Saturday featuring tons of new inspiration using the new release products, as well, so keep your eyes peeled for that! Have a marvelous day, friends!

Hot Foiled Shaker Window with Simon Says Stamp!

June 19, 2023

This post was sponsored by Simon Says Stamp. Thanks, Simon!

Acetate is having a moment on my blog lately, right? I am loving the different ways that acetate can be incorporated into my cardmaking, especially when paired with hot foil! Last week, I shared a project in THIS POST using Hero Arts’s Acetate, which also happens to be hot foil-friendly… total game changer. For today’s project, I have a peachy shaker card using lots of goodies from Simon Says Stamp! Let’s get started with the details.

To start, I hot foiled the Intricate Rose and Blooms Bouquet image from Simon Says Stamp onto some Acetate using Satin Rose Gold foil from Spellbinders. After hot foiling, I placed the coordinating die (I love that the set has both the hot foil plate and the die included in the set!) in the center of an A2 Nectar card front. I oriented the hot foil image so that it nestled behind the window in the correct spot, then adhered the hot foiled acetate panel to the back of the die cut window panel using super strong double sided tape. I also blended Nectar ink from Concord and 9th around the edges of another A2 panel of Nectar cardstock to add a little interest behind the foil window.

To embellish the blank areas on the card front, I die cut the super detailed Daisies and Leaves die from some glittery rose gold cardstock. I adhered these super intricate die cuts in the corners of the card front using the Micro Dot Adhesive from Simon Says Stamp, which made adding them a much quicker process than if I had used liquid glue! I adhered the die cut in one corner, then trimmed the excess off and oriented it on the other corner. It adds some extra sparkle and interest to the fairly plain card front!

To assemble my card, I filled my shaker card with a mixture of sequins and confetti (in coordinating colors, of course) from Studio Katia. For the greeting, I heat embossed a couple of sentiments from the Friend Greetings stamp set from Simon Says Stamp onto some super pale peach cardstock using Rose Gold embossing powder and adhered it using more double sided tape.

I love how this project turned out…. It’s monochromatic but with lots of fun metallic accents to keep things interesting! Well, that’s all for me today. Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a marvelous day!

Adding Acetate to Kick Your Flowers Up A Notch!

June 16, 2023

This post was sponsored by Simon Says Stamp. Thanks, Simon!

Hi there! Jennifer McGuire is just full of excellent ideas, isn’t she? I feel lucky to have such a talented friend! (She gives amazing hugs!) We all get inspiration from her so frequently, and I find her use of acetate to create unique card fronts to be so intriguing and unique! This project is kind of a piggyback on my card from earlier this week, in which I used black A7 Thin Frames die to accent my floral background. Today, I’m using an acetate background to create a super special wedding card, adding some more A7 Thin Frames to help ground the flower on the acetate so that it’s not floating in midair. Let’s get started with the details!

It is such a thrill to me to see how many stamp sets I’ve illustrated over the last few years; I never dreamed that I would be able to use my own drawings to create cards when I started this journey 14 years ago, but I don’t think that I have words to describe what it means to me when I see artists whom I admire so much using my illustrations. Debby Hughes is one such artist; I’ve admired her work for nearly as long as I’ve been stamping, and she painted my Thankful Magnolia image so splendidly… I audibly gasped when I saw it. She was so good as to send that treasure to me, and I have had her card sitting on my desk as an inspiration. I finally made/found the time to do my own watercolored version of the Thankful Magnolia for today’s card! It’s a double whammy of inspiration from those cardmakers whom I admire the most!

To start, I stamped the Thankful Magnolia on some Arches Cold Press Watercolor Paper using Hero Arts’s Contour Ink. I then did some watercolor mixing and matching to create this peach melba magnolia. (I don’t believe that’s really a thing, but how perfect is that description for this peach and raspberry magnolia?) After I’d finished watercoloring the image, I die cut it with the coordinating die. I knew that I wanted to have a peach background to highlight the peachy undertones on the flower, so I selected my peach cardstock from my stash and outline the edge of the die cut with the coordinating Copic marker to keep the color palette seamless.

Once I had finished coloring my main floral image, I cut down a panel of peach cardstock to 7×5.5 inches. I used my Altenew Scoring Board to score 1/2″ in from the edge, creating a 5×7 card with a tiny flap along the long side. I used some super strong double sided tape to adhere a 5″x7″ panel of acetate to the thin flap, creating an A7 card with a transparent front! To accent the peachy magnolia, I die cut the A7 Thin Frames using some Metallic Rose Gold foil cardstock from Simon Says Stamp. I keep my Thin Frames dies together as they arrived in the package; this allows me to have a huge variety of sizes in two different widths with one pass through my die cut machine! I added one thicker frame closer to the edge and a thinner one more towards the center. This addition of the frames adds a little interest to the clear background as well as a bit of sturdiness to the acetate.

For the greeting, I die cut the So Happy For You Both die from another piece of Metallic Rose Gold foil cardstock (isn’t that shade of metallic blush divine?) and backed it with the outline layer cut from vellum. I popped the magnolia up with some foam tape, then popped up the greeting with some clear dimensional adhesive. The vellum behind the foil sentiment allows the greeting to pop a bit from the background while still keeping the overall feeling of lightness on the finished card! Finally, I added a few peachy iridescent gems for one last bit of sparkle.

Well, that’s all for my project today! I am so excited about how this first acetate card came out… I can’t wait to try it on another project! Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a marvelous day!

Hot Foil on Acetate with Hero Arts+Discount Code!

June 15, 2023

Hi friends! I realized recently that I never shared the projects that I created for the Hero Arts Spring 2023 Catalog here on my blog, and they were some of my favorite projects that I’ve done for Hero Arts! Gasp! We on the Creative Team were also given a special discount code to share with our followers so that you could stock up on some of the old and new goodies that you’ve had your eyes on. The project that I have for you today features one of my favorite things to do with hot foil: hot foiling on acetate, so let’s get started with the details.

Hot foiling is pretty much my favorite “trendy” thing. I think the level of polish that hot foil adds to a project really kicks it up to a completely new level, and there are so many fun techniques that you can do with it! I discovered awhile ago that the Hero Arts Acetate Sheets are hot foil-friendly. That is, you can use it with your hot foil plates! The best part is that the super smooth surface of the acetate basically guarantees a flawless impression of your hot foiled image.

I hot foiled the gorgeous Bold Graphic Hot Foil Plate from Hero Arts onto some Acetate using a dark gold satin foil from Spellbinders. The lines on this hot foil plate design are fairly thick, and the smooth surface of the acetate ensured that the image transferred beautifully.

Next, I die cut a couple of Daffodil Fancy Die die cuts from some plain white cardstock. To coordinate with the dark golden tones of the foil, I used my OLO markers to color the flowers a deep, almost mustard yellow (OLO markers YO2.7, 2.5, 2.3, and 2.2) which worked beautifully with the satin foil color. Starting with plain white die cuts for your standalone flower dies means that you can color them whatever colors you want-limited only by your imagination and your marker stash!

I trimmed the acetate panel down slightly and mounted it on a plain white A2 card base, dabbing small dots of liquid adhesive behind the solid foiled areas and leaving a thin white frame around the outer edge. I trimmed down a rectangle of Hero Arts’s Vellum Layering Paper, then arranged my daffodils and a black die cut “thinking of you” sentiment over the top of the vellum before adhering. I adhered the daffodils and sentiment to the vellum panel, then flipped it over and added tiny dots of adhesive to the back of the solid die cuts. This allowed me to hide the adhesive and keep the transparent vellum pristine! You have to be a little tricky with transparent papers, but I think they make such a huge impact on your cards.

Well, that’s all for my project today. Hero Arts has provided my followers with a 10% discount in the Hero Arts Store. Simply put code EMILY10 in at checkout to receive 10% off your purchase through June 30!!
