So Grateful For You in Acrylic Paint with Simon Says Stamp!

Hi friends! I know that we are in the midst of the STAMPtember collaboration fun and all of the surprises, but I have another piece of inspiration to share with you using some new goodies from the Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember collection! **Reminder: the limited edition exclusive collaboration sets (check them out HERE) will not be restocked once they sell out, but the STAMPtember collection (check it out HERE) will be restocked if/when they sell out!** I have been so enjoying playing with different mediums on different materials than simply plain white cardstock lately, pairing colored pencils with colored cardstock, acrylic markers with ceramic and canvas, and for today’s project, I decided to pair my acrylic paint markers with a panel of kraft cardstock for a striking and bold project, softened with a lovely and feminine color palette. Let’s get started with the details on my project!

I began my project by stamping several images from Today & Every Day onto two different panels of kraft cardstock using Simon Says Stamp White Pigment Ink. Similar to when I work with pencils on colored cardstock, I like to use the white pigment ink with the acrylic markers simply because it blends into the opaque paint smoothly and seamlessly. I then used acrylic paint markers to add simple coloring to the stamped images, keeping the coloring very basic to create almost a block print effect.

After I had finished coloring both images with the colorful paint markers, I added some simple white lines to the foliage to add a bit more shape and detail to the simple flowers. Images like those in the Today & Every Day stamp set are great for use with this very simple coloring technique, because their illustration is very open and simplistic, which fits the aesthetic of this basic coloring technique nicely. I die cut one of the images using the coordinating dies, as well as a greeting that I had created with white pigment ink and white embossing powder on the second panel of kraft cardstock.

Before adhering the die cuts to the panel, I used my T-square and a white paint pen to create a very simple frame around the flat painted panel. I love the effect that this easy and quick step has on the finished project; it draws your eye to the focal point without adding any additional bulk or color. I popped up the sentiment with a double layer of thin foam adhesive, then tucked the floral stem behind the greeting with a single layer of foam adhesive. Finally, I added a blush colored bow created with thin ribbon as well as some Peachy Pawsitively Dazzling Gems for added sparkle. Super simple card, but the effect is so unusual and, I think, so pretty!

I immediately fell in love with the whimsical and sweet autumnal and Halloween imagery from the new Haunted Garden stamp set and knew that I had to pull out all of the stops with my coloring to create some special and fun pieces to share with you. Let’s get started with the details on my projects!

I find that simple images like these from the Haunted Garden set are truly perfect for practicing my artistry. There are just few enough details that I can dig in to the shading and make the shape and shadow decisions for myself instead of relying on the lines within the stamp set to do it for me! I created this sweet little Halloween trinket dish and a coordinating card (how sweet would these be as a little gift for a friend?) with acrylic paint markers and colored pencils!

I don’t typically go for “spooky” at Halloween… life is scary enough without adding pretend blood and gore! The sweet little ghost image, however, is so precious and reminds me of an episode of Peg + Cat that my big kids used to watch when they were toddlers. I paid homage to that memory with this little ceramic trinket dish, stamping the image and pretty Boo! sentiment with gold pigment ink directly onto the unglazed ceramic.

I used acrylic paint markers to do some fun coloring on the dish, blending the colors with a dry paintbrush to add extra depth to the shadows. I also added lots of gold accents and edged the dish with gold for a little added luxury. I finished the dish off with some sealant to protect the painting. Wouldn’t this just look so cute on a coffee table or countertop?

The card features another of the images from the Haunted Garden set, this time stamped on cardstock to create this warm and elegant all-occasion card. I stamped the image and greeting using white pigment ink on some lovely chestnut brown cardstock. The white ink shows up beautifully on the colored cardstock and also blends into the colored pencil coloring very smoothly. I used colored pencils in deep shades of orange and olive, adding a pop of bright coral for the blooms, and I am truly obsessed with how vibrant the pencil colors are on the deep brown cardstock!

Once I had finished coloring the pumpkin and accents, I used a gold paint pen to cover the sentiment stamp. It’s a bit difficult to photograph, but the shine is so lovely in person! I also used a new product to embellish the penciled panel, adding an embossed decorative edge using the Embossed Card Edges die set. I love the subtle textured detail that this adds to the card front! I cut a piece of gold foil cardstock to fit the bottom of the card base that also matched my gold sentiment, then used liquid adhesive to adhere the penciled portion above it, overlapping the gold with brown. Finally, I added a few Gold Pawsitively Dazzling Gems at the point of the embellished bracket edge!

Faithful Frame with Blooms of Encouragement from Simon Says Stamp!

Hi friends! I have a fun framed project to share with you today using the same technique that I shared in THIS post. Whenever I am out and about, I am always on the hunt for fun, inexpensive items that I can customize with stamps and dies, and these arched frames from my local dollar store immediately set my creative wheels spinning!! Once I had worked out the technique for painting on glass with acrylic paint markers, I knew that I wanted to apply the same technique on this larger frame, creating some pretty decor! Let’s get started with the details on my project!

To begin, I stamped the large tulip floral arrangement from my newest stamp set for Simon Says Stamp, called Blooms of Encouragement onto some scrap paper, then used washi tape to adhere the glass front of the frame over the stamped image, centering the flowers on the arched glass. I then used acrylic paint markers to paint the images. I used a bit of a reverse painting technique compared to the method in which I normally paint. Typically, I paint the darkest areas first, but for this project with acrylic markers, I painted the lightest spots first. This ensures that those light highlighted areas are at the forefront. After I had finished painting the images, I used some pretty gold acrylic paint to outline the painted image and the central oval, adding some luxurious gold luster to the blank area in the center.

I flipped the painted glass panel over and placed it in the frame, with the painted side on the interior of the frame to protect it from being scratched. I used the frame’s backer to cut out a bright purple cardstock backer, placing it behind the painted image. I think the contrast of the pretty pink and green blooms looks so lovely with the vibrant purple background!

After I had the frame finished, I wanted to add an inspirational greeting in the blank gold space at the center of the floral arrangement, so I heat embossed the “have faith” sentiment from the new Blessed stamp set. I heat embossed the image in gold on pale pink cardstock, then die cut it with the coordinating dies, which are super detailed. I used foam adhesive to pop up the sentiment die cut, then added a delicate pink velvet bow, which I adhered using my hot glue gun.

Well, that’s all for my project today! I am so excited to play with this technique some more. It creates such a unique look with the bold and colorful painted images on the glass, and placing it in the frame creates something lasting that you can use as decor for your home or office. Fancy Floral Thank You with New Simon Says Stamp!

Hi friends! I am back with another project featuring some of the beautiful new goodies from the new Happy Camper release. I am always up for a fun coloring project using a gorgeous floral embossing folder, and the new Fun Floral Frame immediately struck me with it’s beauty and delicate floral design. Embossing folders are such incredible additions to your craft room; they are so cost effective and the techniques that can be used with them are so varied and versatile! Let’s get started with the details on my project for today.

To begin, I ran a panel of Simon Says Stamp Rainforest cardstock through my die cutting machine with the new Fun Floral Frame. To bring out the beautiful floral arrangement, I used some opaque acrylic paint markers to add color to each individual bloom, enhancing the floral centers with a shimmering gold paint pen. Once I had finished coloring the florals and foliage, which didn’t take long due to the simplicity of the coloring, I added some Pawsitively Perfect White Splatter onto the card front, adding to the mixed media aesthetic I was trying to achieve!

To accompany the painted embossed florals on the card base, I die cut the new Beautiful Branch dies from some Mint and Cotton Candy cardstock, which coordinates nicely with the colors in the background. I also die cut the new Fancy Thank You, selecting the same Cotton Candy cardstock for the detail layer and a turquoise glitter cardstock for the shadow. I adhered the two layers together with liquid adhesive.

After I had finished die cutting the accents for my painted background, I began assembling everything. I used both thin and thick foam adhesive squares to adhere the sentiment and floral accents, creating multiple levels of additional dimension on the embossed card front. For a final sparkling touch, I added a few Bubblegum Pawsitively Dazzling Gems to the card front, nestling them amongst the floral arrangements.

Golden Butterflies on Black with Simon Says Stamp!

Hi friends! I have a pair of bold butterfly beauties to share with you today. I received some fabulous Acrylic Markers from Altenew a few weeks ago, and I couldn’t wait to try them out on a black background with a bold image. I looked through my stash for some simple and bold images and locked onto the gorgeous Mix and Match Butterflies. This set has a wide variety of images, including butterflies and leaves, perfect for building scenes or for use with a single bold stamp. I used a combination of both of these styles to create a decorated canvas bag and coordinating greeting card. Let’s get started with the details!

To begin, I used Simon Says Stamp’s White Pigment Ink to stamp images from Mix and Match Butterflies onto a black zippered canvas bag and in the center of a black A2 card front. The white pigment ink stands out beautifully on the black background and provides great contrast to begin my coloring.

I used the Altenew Acrylic Markers to add some color to targeted areas inside the butterfly images, keeping the colors consistent throughout each stamped butterfly. After I had colored all of the images, I used a gold paint pen to outline the painted images and add some luxurious gold shimmer. Such a fun way to customize a plain canvas pencil bag! Simpler images work better for this technique, creating almost a stained glass effect.

For the card, I kept things to a similar color palette, painting the butterfly sections with a single color of acrylic paint pent and adding shining gold details. The Simon Says Stamp So Very Black cardstock is super smooth and a perfect black, so the gold paint pen glides over the stamped lines beautifully and create such a luminous shine. It looks so luxurious to me!

After I had finished painting the butterfly, I used my trimmer to trim the edges of the black A2 card front and matted it in the center of an A2 gold foil card front, adding a shimmering gold frame around my butterfly. I heat embossed a greeting from the Mix and Match Butterflies set onto some more black cardstock using gold embossing powder, then die cut it with the coordinating die and popped it up beneath the colorful butterfly. Finally, I added a few sparkling Gold Pawsitively Dazzling Gems for added shine!
