Vacation Mode with Simon Says Stamp!

Hi friends! While our summer vacation has officially ended with the start of school for all four of my kiddos, I still wish that we had been able to get to a beach somewhere. However, in the depths of the cornfields of the Midwest, beach vacations are not terribly easy to come by, so I just have to daydream about past beach trips and hope that maybe next summer we will get it together enough to plan a beach vacation for our family! In the meantime, I created this serene, beach-inspired project using some goodies from Simon Says Stamp. Let’s get started with the details!

To begin my project, I die cut the Large Sand Dollar and Small Sand Dollar dies from some pearlescent white cardstock. I love the subtle sheen on this cardstock, and the coating means that it die cuts extraordinarily well. I also used the EZ Strips Rectangles dies to die cut all of the sentiments from one of the EZ Strips Reverse Get Away in one fell swoop! How convenient, right?

For the background of my card, I decided to invoke the tranquil lines of ocean waves with the Underwater Stencil. I placed my white A2 cardstock on my stenciling setup (a Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Perfect Craft Tacky Mat placed on a Simon Says Stamp Magnetic Glass Mat, which I keep setup at all times for quick stenciling!) then blended Pawsitively Saturated Inks in shades of Seafoam, Surf, Ocean, and Raindrop with blending brushes. I found that the delicate lines of these stencils work best if you follow the lines with soft horizontal brushing strokes, rather than the circular strokes with which I normally blend on stencils. After blending each layer, I removed the panel from my mat and trimmed it down slightly, matting it on a full size panel of Simon Says Stamp Rainforest Cardstock.

Once I had finished die cutting and stenciling each component, I assembled the die cuts on the card. I used single and double layers of Thin Foam Squares to adhere each die cut, creating a variety of heights and adding texture and depth to the card front. I clustered the three sand dollars around the sentiment, tucking a twine bow beneath the sentiment for additional texture. Finally, I added some Surf Pawsitively Dazzling Gems for a touch of added sparkle!

This month’s release features everything from flowers to the beach, with something for everyone! I have a beachy project to share with you today, so let’s get started with the details.

Normally, when I think of the beach, I think of cool blues and greens like the water and sky. But the beach itself is full of warmer tones, from the golden sand to the peach and pink and brown seashells that you find tucked amongst the dunes. So I thought that I would keep things nice and warm for today’s card with a coral, gold, and creamy white color scheme to share inspiration using the new Summer Wishes stamps and dies.

I began by heat embossing several elements from the Summer Wishes onto some creamy white cardstock using gold embossing powder. I used alcohol markers to add some pretty coral colors to the umbrella, shells, and hat, while adding some very pale, warm gray shadows to the white chair. I die cut all of the colored images with the coordinating dies.

Next, I die cut a matte gold frame from Brushed Metallic Gold cardstock using the Fine Frames cover plate die. I also used the same shades of coral markers to color an ombre on a long rectangle of white cardstock, then die cut “hello” using the Inline Alpha dies.

I glue the matte gold frame to the white A2 card front, then I arranged the die cut beach pieces in a little cluster and used Instant Dimension Foam Adhesive and liquid adhesive to adhere them. I also heat embossed a greeting from Summer Wishes using gold embossing powder on a white strip of cardstock, tucked beneath the die cut ombré sentiment. Scene cards are not the easiest for me to create, but by limiting the color palette and making the canvas a little smaller and less daunting with the gold frame, it’s a little easier to “see” the beachy scene!

Beachy Thanks with Honey Bee Stamps!

Hi there! I’m back again… I know, three posts in one week?! I was able to put together several cards using stamped and colored die cuts, including this beachy scene using some new goodies from the Honey Bee Stamps Hello Summer release to create a super beachy thank you card! Let’s get started with the details.

I began by stamping and die cutting several images from the Hello Summer stamps and dies onto some watercolor paper using waterproof black ink. I then used Karin watercolor markers in shades of peach, cobalt, and pale gray to add some pretty, super coordinated coloring to the images. (I love when everything matches!)

Next, I trimmed down a panel of pretty medium-blue cardstock for my card front and used the Oval Spotlight Stencils with some sapphire blue ink and blending brushes to create a more controlled area for the background of my little beach scene.

I trimmed down a strip of sandy beach patterned paper from the Beach Vibes patterned paper pack and adhered it at the bottom of my blended blue background panel using liquid adhesive. I adhered all of the die cuts to the card base using a mix of liquid and foam adhesive, then finally added a sentiment die cut from the Slimline Honey Cuts Sentiments Eyelet die set, which I cut from some sparkling white cardstock. I love how the sentiment pops so nicely against that bright blue backdrop!

Well, that’s all for my project today! Hopefully, I will get the opportunity to get back to regular blogging…. My biggest littles start remote learning for first grade in a few weeks, so I’m not sure what that’s going to require of me.
