Simon Says Stamp Stamptember Blog Party!

STAMPtember is officially in full swing, and we’re celebrating with a blog party! If you’re new to STAMPtember: September is Simon Says Stamp‘s birthday month, so the entire month is filled with fabulous releases, celebrations, prizes, challenges… good, clean, inky fun (and prizes!) for an entire month!! I am so thrilled to have illustrated two of the sets that were released during yesterday’s introductory release:  Floral Frames and Butterfly Ranunculus. I have a previous blog post with some watercolored projects using these new sets, which you can check out HERE. Today’s post again features the Butterfly Ranunculus set, this time with Copic markers! In my cardmaking, I am all about making things as seamless and coordinated as possible. To that end, the white edge on die cut images drives me a little nuts when I am working with a vibrant, saturated, colorful background. I recently saw Dawn from Wplus9 use a pale blue Copic marker around her images before die cutting, and I thought that it would translate well to other colors, too! The beautiful Shamrock cardstock from Hero Arts is such a stunning shade of green, and it reminded me of beautiful brocade fabrics, with intense emerald silk for the background and brilliant blue embroidery. Monochromatic, but not really monochromatic, if you know what I mean. I just had to channel that inspiration into a card!

I began by stamping all of the images from the Butterfly Ranunculus set using Hero Arts Intens-ified Black ink onto some white, Copic-friendly cardstock. I used G07 Copic marker to color a halo around the edge of the images, making sure to extend far enough that the entire edge would be green when die cut. I then colored the images, using BG49, BG53, BG01, B00, B000 for the flower and T7, BG78, G28, G09 for the foliage.

Because I wanted to keep the flower a very light shade of blue, I colored the petals first with the four lightest shades of aqua, then added touches of BG49 wherever the shadows would be deepest, blending them out with the lighter shades to get a smooth blend. A little goes a long way with the darker shades, so don’t add too much, because it’s basically impossible to remove once you put the ink on the paper!

Once I had my flowers colored and die cut, I cut a Nested Domed Arch from the Shamrock cardstock, running it through my die cut machine once more with the Detail Mandala Plate from Simon Says Stamp. This extra step adds just a touch of subtle interest and texture to the background of my flowers. I adhered the domed arch to an A2 Shamrock card base using foam tape, then arranged the colored flowers, adhering them with lots of foam tape, sometimes in double layers to add extra height. I heat embossed a greeting from Butterfly Ranunculus onto a strip of Shamrock cardstock using silver embossing powder, finally adding a smattering of Mirrored Mint pearls for some shine!

May Our Hearts Be Full of Thanks + Giving

Hi there! I’m up on the Honey Bee Stamps blog today, and I’ve got some autumnal inspiration for you using some beautiful new goodies from the Autumn Splendor release! I seem to be trying to will fall temperatures into existence by creating fall projects. Isn’t that how it works? It should be, in any case. Maybe the beautiful blue skies and warm temps prompted me to pair the fall sunflowers from Garden Harvest with some bright white die cuts. Let’s get started with the details!

I began by stamping some blooms, foliage, and an acorn (what says fall more than an acorn and an oak leaf?) from Garden Harvest onto some white cardstock using the Honey Bee Stamps Intense Black Ink. I colored them with a variety of yellow Copic markers, adding some touches of deep forest green to keep that little hint of Indian Summer. I die cut the finished images using the coordinating Honey Cuts. I also die cut a Grapevine Wreath and bow from some more white cardstock, arranging the flowers and bow in a little cluster and adhering them to the white wreath.

Next, I created a woodgrain background using the Barn Wood Planks dies. I staggered them so that they would look a bit more rustic than a true shiplap background.

I stamped the beautiful greeting from Sweater Weather using Intense Black Ink on some more white cardstock, then die cut the greeting with the coordinating Honey Cuts. I love that you have the option to die cut the sentiment just as it’s stamped as well as the option to die cut each segment individually so that you can arrange the sentiment however you like! I adhered the wreath and greeting to the woodgrain background using lots of foam adhesive. When using white-on-white (or any tone-on-tone) like this, I like to use lots of adhesive to give extra dimension and definition to the white die cuts.

To Some Bunny Special…

Hi there! I’m up on the Honey Bee Stamps blog with some punny Easter inspiration for you using some of the products from the latest release! I never have been much for “cute” or punny projects, preferring to keep things a bit more elegant, but the new Easter Basket Builder stamp set is a great combination of elegant and adorable! Let’s get started with the details on my project.

To start, I stamped several elements from the Easter Basket Builder using Copic-friendly ink on some Neenah cardstock, then used my Copic markers to color them. I like to use unexpected color palettes, this time going with a raspberry, peach, and sunny yellow color scheme for the basket full of eggs. I die cut the colored images using the coordinating Honey Cuts.

Next, I die cut a panel using the Basketweave Slimline Die to create some beautifully subtle tone-on-tone texture. Because this die is made to create a slimline card, the dimensions are not quite wide enough to cover the entirety of the A2 card front, but I like the plain frame that it leaves on each side! I blended a bit of peach ink in the spot behind where the basket sits using a blender brush, helping to draw the eye to the focal point of the card.

I adhered the die cuts to the card front using foam adhesive, then added a greeting from Hoppy Easter, which I stamped in black and then die cut from the coordinating dies. Finally, I added a few Moonlight gems for some sparkle.

Baby spam+Honey Bee Stamps!

Hi friends! It’s been a bit, hasn’t it? I have a good excuse, promise. Make that two good excuses! Meet Ben and Sam!

My (second set of) twins were born a bit earlier than expected at the beginning of April. You might know this if you follow me on Instagram (I’m @eamidgett), but if you don’t follow social media, you might not have seen these little guys yet. I had a couple of people reach out to ask where I went (thank you for caring <3), so I thought I’d pop on here and share my littlest fellas!

Because of their unexpectedly early arrival, I wasn’t able to share my projects for the Honey Bee Stamps Bee-day release! I collaborated on two different stamp sets for this release: In Full Bloom and Farm Fresh Flowers.

Farm Fresh Flowers

I have a few projects to share with you using these new sets (and some of the other goodies from the latest Honey Bee release, as well!). I won’t go into super huge detail, though, as my little guys are about to wake up from their naps! If you have specific questions about a project, please feel free to email me or leave a comment, and I will do my best to answer!

For this first project, I put the floral frame from In Full Bloom to use with the coordinating interior polygon die to create a pretty flowered shaker card. I colored the flowers with Copic markers in shades of pink, magenta, and coral! A bit of coral ink blending on the card base behind the shaker window added a pretty background for the sentiment.

My second project uses In Full Bloom again, this time pairing it with the new Polygon Thin Frames and some no-line pencil coloring. I stamped the main image from In Full Bloom on some black cardstock using white pigment ink, then coloring it using Caran D’ache Luminance pencils, adding a white die cut sentiment and and Polygon Thin Frame, popping it up on a black card base for some tone-on-tone with a pop of color!

My next project uses the new Farm Fresh Flowers. I heat embossed the super detailed spring bouquet and pitcher onto some watercolor paper, then watercolored the image using Karin markers in pretty shades of peach, coral, pink, and emerald green. I mounted it on a background that I’d stamped using the new Buffalo Plaid clear background stamp, finishing it off with a sentiment and some gems.

Next, I wanted to share some projects using some of the other darling new (non-floral, ha!) products from the birthday release! This project features Safari Babies, which I no-line watercolored using Distress Oxide inks for a super soft, almost storybook feel. I heat embossed the greeting from the Safari Babies stamp set, die cutting the images wit their coordinating Honey Cuts. I blended some white pigment ink on a blue card base using the Clouds stencils, adding a grass border and a few sparkling heart die cuts.

For my next project, I used the new Balloon Alphabet dies and Happy Beeday stamps to create a sweet birthday card. I die cut letters for “celebrate” from some dark gold cardstock, as well as a vellum polygon and celebration bear. I mounted all of the die cuts on a panel of patterned paper from the Spring Fling paper pad.

For my final project, I used the darling stamps and dies from the Happy Beeday to create a sweet birthday party scene, stamping several elements and adding color with Copic markers, then die cutting with the coordinating Honey Cuts. I added a greeting using the new Birthday stamps and Honey Cuts.

I know it’s Paint-A-Flower, but I wanted to show you that these blooms will look just as gorgeous with many different mediums, including Copic markers! Let’s get started with the details.

I began by stamping the main flower image and several of the greenery bits onto some white, Copic-friendly cardstock using Copic-friendly black ink. I then used RV69, V06, RV66, V05, and RV55 markers to color the beautiful poppy bloom, along with a variety of greens for the foliage. I fussy cut the pieces with some very sharp scissors and set them aside.

Next, I die cut the Leaf Frame Cover Plate die from some crisp black cardstock, reserving the center portion and adhering both pieces to a white A2 card base using liquid adhesive.

I also adhered the pieces from the Paint A Flower: Poppy that I’d colored using foam adhesive, as well as a sentiment on a thin strip of white cardstock, also from the new Paint A Flower: Poppy. The final touch was to add a few charcoal gems for some sparkle!

Well, that’s all for my project today! I am absolutely loving this new Paint A Flower line from Altenew. Just what this girl needs- more beautiful Altenew flowers to color! Now, here’s the rest of the hop list in case you got lost:
