Eggstra Special with New Simon Says Stamp Favorite Things!

Hi friends! I have some colorful, cheery Easter inspiration using the adorable new Eggstra Special stamp set from Simon Says Stamp’s latest release, called Favorite Things! I leaned into the Pastel Pigment Ink palette from Simon Says Stamp for several of my projects for this release, but I wanted to add a little pop of vibrant pink to this project to help those sweet blooms stand out amongst the colorful Easter eggs. Let’s get started with the details!

To start my project, I stamped several images and a sentiment from the new Eggstra Special stamp set onto some white cardstock using Nocturne Pigment Ink, then covered it with Clear Embossing Powder to make those black lines extra crisp and stark against my pastel color palette! I then used OLO Markers in a variety of pastel shades, zhuzhing things up with a pop of vibrant magenta. Because I wanted to have a sunny, buttery yellow background, I used a coordinating butter yellow marker around the white edges of my die cuts to make sure that they transitioned seamlessly from the background to the foreground!

After I had finished my focal point, I die cut the previously-released Double Plaid Cover with the buttery yellow glitter cardstock in the new Pastel 6×6 Glitter Pack. I love this plaid background; it’s the perfect amount of texture and pattern without overwhelming the main focal point! I paired the buttery yellow glitter pattern with a Lemon Chiffon card base, creating a fairly neutral tone-on-tone texture and pattern behind my colorful springtime images.

To help ground my images and sentiment die cuts on my plaid card front so that they weren’t just floating in midair, I die cut one of the Nested Ovals Dies from Simon Says Stamp Vellum. I arranged the colored die cuts in the center of the vellum oval, then adhered all of the die cuts to the front of the card with liquid and foam adhesive, hiding the adhesive for the vellum behind the solid die cuts. To add a few final shimmery accents, I added some Butter Pawsitively Dazzling Gems and a bow tied with the new Simon Says Stamp Iridescent White Cord. I think this card exudes all of the springtime feels!

“Comfort Coloring” with Simon Says Stamp!

Hi friends! I am back today with a vibrant Copic card featuring some “comfort coloring.” You know how people have “comfort food” and “comfort shows,” things they eat or watch or listen to when they need to feel better? Well, sometimes coloring fulfills that role for me, especially when things get a little crazy both personally and in the world at large. The last few months have been more than a little stressful for me for a variety of reasons, and I am not sure when that stress will start to abate, but now that the holidays are officially over and my kiddos are all back in school, I’m hoping that things will start to resemble something like normalcy. I needed some stress-relief the other day, so I began looking through my Simon Says Stamp bins and pulling out things that just made me happy to look at, including the beautiful Anemone Cluster embossing folder. I am always up for a gorgeous embossing folder, adding some vibrant color and enhancing the already-exquisite details with some intense coloring.

To begin my project, I ran a panel of white cardstock through my die cutting machine using the Anemone Cluster embossing folder. The detail on this embossing folder is absolutely spectacular on it’s own, but I wanted to add to the incredible texture by doing some really detailed coloring. This kind of intense coloring session is really therapeutic for me; it allows me to get lost in the details, working closely to make sure that I am keeping the edges of each petal as clean and crisp as possible and that the contrast between light and dark is extra visible. I used vibrant shades of purple and emerald green Copic markers to create these lovely purple anemones. Did you know that anemone flowers come in a huge variety of colors? They’re such beautiful blooms, and definitely one of my favorites!

After I had finished coloring all of the images, I used blending brushes to blend both Orchid & Morning Pawsitively Saturated Ink around the edges of the card front, creating an ethereal halo behind the flowers and enhancing the gorgeous purple of the blooms with the combination. Because the color on the blooms is so intense, I did not have to worry about the subtle blending changing the color of my meticulously-colored images.

For the greeting, I used some pewter toner foil with the You Sentiment Strips and a foiling machine to add lovely shine to the simple sentiment strips. I used my guillotine trimmer to trim the strips down, then paired the “wishing” and “love and happiness” strips with a die cut Fancy You. I cut the shadow layer from Simon Says Stamp’s Plum Glitter Cardstock and the detail layer from plain white cardstock, adhering the two together with liquid adhesive. I arranged the three sentiment components on the colorful card front, adhering them with foam adhesive for extra dimension. Finally, I added a smattering of Prism Pawsitively Dazzling Gems for added sparkle!

This shaped card features a fun window on the card front that I backed with some foiled acetate and adorned with some floral die cuts in monochromatic shades of aqua. Let’s get started with the details on my project!

I began by die trimming down a panel of icy blue cardstock to 6″ x 4.25″, then using a score board to score a fold 1/2″ away from the top, creating a lip upon which I would later adhere the back of my card base. The plates on my die cutting machine are pretty beaten up, so I used two separate panels to create my top-folding A2 card base in order to keep the back panel as clean as possible. After I had scored the top fold, I used a die from the Nested Arches Die set to cut a window from the center of the front card panel. To fill in the open window, I used an acetate panel that I had created previously using the Ornate Trellis Better Press Plate and the Solid Hot Foil Plate. I love using heat-resistant acetate with the Solid Hot Foil Plate and leftover hot foil pieces; the super smooth surface of the acetate hot foils the solid foil pieces with immaculate results. I backed the open window with the hot foiled piece, adhering it with some super strong double sided tape.

Once I had created my card base, it was time to embellish my card! I used the Stylized Florals Stencils with Sky Blue, Waterfall, and Paradise inks, keeping my aqua blue monochromatic color palette true throughout the process. I die cut the individually-stenciled flowers in one fell swoop with the one-piece Stylized Florals Dies, then cut the foliage from another panel of icy blue cardstock as well as some Aqua Glitter Paper. I adhered the die cuts together on the die cut foliage swag, using the color-printed schematic in the product packaging as my guide for placement. To add a bit more interest to the layers of the flowers, I added a smattering of Ice Clear Drops to the centers of a few of the flowers, adding one more element of texture and shine.

For the greeting, I used a silver hot foiled sentiment from the Favorite Things Sentiments Better Press set. This sentiment set is one of my favorites from Pinkfresh Studio; it features so many lovely sentiments, making it truly all-purpose! I used some residual ink left over on my blending brushes from my stenciled flowers to blend over the silver-foiled sentiment die cut to continue my monochromatic aqua color palette throughout the card. I thought this sentiment worked perfectly for a birthday card, so I also used some deep teal cardstock to die cut HBD using the Julieta Alpha Dies. (In the video, I share a trick for adhering alphabet die cuts in a perfectly straight line!) I popped up the greeting die cuts with foam adhesive, completing the card!

Sending So Much Love in Pink and Purple!

Hi friends! I am back with another project using some of the new goodies from the Smitten release from Simon Says Stamp. I am trying to switch my brain out of Christmas mode (which is really difficult for me!), and the pretty, graphic flowers and bold sentiment sets from the Smitten release are a great palette cleanser! I pulled out the new Flower Burst Cling and some pretty, springy inks and created this simple card. Let’s get started with the details!

I began my card by embossing the new Flower Burst Cling onto some Hammermill white cardstock using White Satin Pearl embossing powder. This embossing powder has just the slightest pearlescent sheen to it, making it a little bit fancier than typical white embossing powder. I used Blending Brushes to blend Carnation and Lilac Pawsitively Saturated inks around the edge of the card, then blended Orchid ink around the edge of the embossed panel to create a vivid and colorful background!

For the greeting, I used the new Be Mine Glitter Pack to die cut the Stacked Love You die. I cut the individual letters, then flipped them over and used a piece of washi tape and my gridded mat to line them up in a neat line, placing the glitter side down on the sticky side of the washi tape. I added some small piece of foam adhesive while they were still stuck to the washi tape so that it was easy to adhere the die cuts to the embossed and blended panel in a straight line. Once I had placed my glitter die cut sentiment in the center of the blended panel, I trimmed down a greeting from the new All the Love Sentiment Cards and popped it up with more foam adhesive.

To add some extra sparkle to this card, I added some shimmering purple gems to the center of some of the flowers. I used a pickup stick to make it super easy to add the gems in precisely the right spot!

I feel like daffodils always get overlooked because their season is so short-lived, but they provide such a gorgeous burst of color in your yard after the dreary gray-ness of winter!

My first project features the some sunny, cheerful daffodils created with the Craft-A-Flower Daffodil. I die cut several using a variety of peach and yellow cardstocks (I love the peachy daffodils. So unique and a refreshing change from the typical bright yellow!) and assembled them using liquid glue and Instant Dimension Foam Tape.

I then trimmed a mini-slimline card base from some pale aqua cardstock and blended some Turquoise ink around the edges with a Small Ink Blending Tool.

I adhered the daffodils and foliage to the blended card front using liquid and foam adhesive, then added a greeting (from the Thinking of You set, embossed in gold on a strip of yellow cardstock), also popped up with foam tape. Finally, some iridescent turquoise gems finished it off!

My second project features the new glitter cardstocks. These new papers are just. so. sparkly. And, bonus, they fit perfectly in the Mini Blossom Die Cutting Machine! I cut several blooms from the Jumbo Garden Picks die set using Dazzling Diamond glitter cardstock, then die cut some sparkling blue foliage from the same die set using Ocean Reflection glitter cardstock.

I die cut a giant “thanks” using the Mega Thanks die and some beautiful medium blue cardstock. I kept everything very monochromatic, but the sparkles and textures of the glitter paper help to keep things visually exciting!

I adhered the flowers and foliage to another pale aqua card base using liquid adhesive, then added the thanks die cut using Instant Dimension Foam Tape. The final touch was a few turquoise gems for added texture!
