Hi there! I’m up on the Honey Bee Stamps blog today with some inspiration using goodies from the new Summer Stems release! I am so excited to have a new illustration being released with this round of gorgeous floral-themed products, called Framed: Anemones. I’ve paired this giant floral stamp (it’s all one stamp, so super easy to create a card front!) with the new Miss You Big Time stamps to create this vibrant card. Let’s get started with the details!
I began by stamping the main floral image from Framed: Anemones using black pigment ink, which I covered with some pearly embossing powder to create a pearlescent charcoal. I personally like the elegance that the addition of the pearl embossing powder adds to the stamped image; it’s just a little different from the normal clear embossing powder, and I think it’s just so pretty!
I watercolored the image using Karin Brushmarker Pro Markers (I demonstrated some of the coloring live on my Instagram page earlier this week, where the video is saved on IGtv.) The vibrance of the color was so fun to play with to create these intense blooms. With the Karin markers, I like to use the smoother “back” side of Arches Cold Press watercolor paper, as well as scribbling the color out onto a ceramic palette instead of putting the marker directly to the paper. I find that I have quite a bit more control over the color using this technique. I added diluted touches of lavender, navy, charcoal, and even a hint of green to the petals of the flowers to give them lots of interest and originality. The transparency of the Karin Brushmarker Pro Markers makes this super easy to do! I added a background made from the same colors used on the flowers themselves, but very diluted versions, made even further diluted with the wet-on-wet technique with which I applied them.
I didn’t want to do too much more to the card front so as not to cover up the meticulously colored flower, so I stamped a greeting from Miss You Big Time onto some vellum, again using the black pigment ink and covering it with the pearlescent embossing powder. I die cut the sentiment with the coordinating Honey Cuts, then popped it up on the card front using some very thin strips of foam adhesive. Some rhinestones added just a hint of sparkle!
Well, that’s all for my project today! If you haven’t checked out the new Summer Stems release, I highly encourage you to do so…. so very many stunning new products. Be still my flower-loving heart! Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a marvelous day!
