Shimmer and shine with Shimmerz paints!

Good morning! I’m back today with my final installment of my mini series focusing on Shimmerz Paints! Today, I used them in a totally different way, but I think that this is definitely my favorite card from this week! Let’s get started!

I began by heat embossing the main floral image from the Simon Says Stamp June card kit: Floral Bliss. This stamp set is so pretty, and I love that it comes with individual blooms as well as the floral spray! After heat embossing, I used Blue Grass and Sugar Plum Shimmerz, Gold Glimmer Blingz, Pining For You and Berry Hot Creameez, and Blue My Mind, Gosh Garnet, and Pink A Boo Inklingz to color the blooms and foliage. I fussy cut it out and turned my attention to the background.

For the background, I wanted to try something a little bit different. I started by heat embossing the beautiful Emma background from Simon Say Stamp onto watercolor paper using clear detail embossing powder. Next, I used my Ranger Mini Mister bottles, an eye dropper, and Gold Glimmer, Hi Ho Silver, and Orchid-stra Blingz to create my own custom shimmer mists! I simply dropped the color into the mister bottle with an old medicine dropper that I’d cleaned out, then filled the rest up with water and gave it a good shake.

I made three different shimmer mists with these liquid paints. Love finding multiple uses for one product! And it didn’t take very much of the paint itself to add plenty of color to my Mini Misters. You could make them even more concentrated by adding more pigment.

I spritzed my lacy background several times, sometimes blotting up areas where the pigment became too concentrated, then used a paper towel to rub off the spots on the embossing after everything had dried sufficiently.

To finish the card, I first heat embossed a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp’s Big Scripty Greetings onto some heavyweight vellum using silver embossing powder, then flagged the end. I die cut a stitched square frame using some silver glitter card stock, then die cut the shimmery background using the largest square from The Ton’s Double Stitched Square dies. I trimmed the floral spray down, then adhered the main spray to the edge of the frame using dimensional adhesive, then adhered the remaining foliage underneath with liquid adhesive.

The final step was to add some sequins for even more sparkle!

More Shimmerz Paints!

Good morning! I’m back again today with another project using Shimmerz paints! Today, I decided to use the paints in a more traditional manner, painting one of my many flower stamps and adding shading and dimension.

I started by stamping and die cutting the lovely new Anemone Wishes that was recently released by The Ton. I heat embossed the stamp using gold embossing powder, then began watercoloring the pretty blooms using Pink-a-Boo Inklingz, Berry Hot, Pining For You, and Lettuce Get Together Creameez, and Sugar Plum and Blue Grass Shimmerz paints from the Shimmerz product line. I was quite happy with the amount of depth that I was able to achieve with just a few of the paints!

I didn’t want to detract too much from the pretty, shimmery floral die cut, so I used a leafy background stencil with some Hero Arts Mint Julep ink and my Clarity Stencil Brushes to blend some soft green foliage on the card base. (I’m not sure why it’s photographing quite so neon… it’s much softer in real life!) I popped up the floral die cut using some dimensional adhesive on my card base, then nestled a sentiment strip using a sentiment from The Ton’s new Summer Blooms set at the bottom of the bouquet. I sprinkled a few sequins around the edge, and that was that!

Adding some sparkle with Shimmerz!

Hi friends! Recently, I was given the opportunity to play with some of the different varieties of paints from Shimmerz. I’m always up for playing with new watercoloring mediums, and if they have sparkle…. well, let’s just say I was excited at the prospect. 😉 Now, if you’re not familiar with these paints, check out their website. For the next three days, I will have a sort of “mini-series” devoted to my projects created with these fabulously shimmery paints.

For my first project in this little series, I chose to work with one of the new-to-me sets from Honey Bee Stamps: Zen Bouquet. I’ve been dying to watercolor this beautiful set since I first laid eyes on it, and this was the perfect excuse to do so! Now, as with any new medium, I wanted to just practice a little and kind of play around with them, find the little quirks and unique properties about the paints. So, for this project, I just heat embossed the main Zen Bouquet image on some watercolor card stock (I just used a scrap that I had lying about) and dabbled paint here and there, not really trying to focus on shading or anything, just enjoying adding color. For this image, I focused on some pretty purples, silvers, and blue-y greens to match the Fresh Lilac Mix from Honey Bee Stamps. I used Corney Flower Blue, Spotlight White, and Blue Lagoon Inklingz from Shimmerz, as well as Hi Ho Silver Blingz and Orchidstra Shimmerz to add color to this super detailed image.

After I had added all of the color to my background, I decided to take the sparkly nature of the paints one step further and make it into a shaker card. I die cut a pretty teal frame from some card stock using the A2 Stitched dies from Honey Bee. I added acetate and dimensional adhesive behind the teal frame, then filled it with the Fresh Lilac sequins mix from Honey Bee.

For the greeting, I die cut the layered Happy die in coordinating shades of lavender, teal, and shimmering silver card stock and added an “anniversary” on a strip of pale gray card stock over the top to create a floating sentiment across the top of the shaker.
