Altenew Paint A Flower: Clematis Josephine Blog Hop + Giveaway!

These beautiful stamps are such a fun addition to your floral collection. You can always subscribe to receive them automatically each month! I have a colorful watercolored project for you today, so let’s get started with the details.

I began by stamping the gorgeous florals from Paint-A-Flower: Clematis Josephine a few times around the edge of a panel of A2 watercolor paper using white pearl embossing powder to create a lovely, detailed floral border. I used the Spring Garden Watercolor Brush Markers to brush some very diluted color all over the embossed panel. This helps to create a lovely, ethereal background while also making the white embossing stand out even more to make watercoloring the individual images a bit simpler.

After watercoloring the flowers with more concentrated color, I allowed the panel to dry completely before splattering some silver metallic paint from the Metallic Watercolor Pan Set. I trimmed the finished panel down slightly and matted it on a full A2 panel of pretty cornflower blue cardstock to coordinate with the blue in the watercolored background.

I die cut a “happy” from some sparkling white cardstock using the Inline Alpha dies. I stacked the letters up on the blank portion of the watercolor card front, then added a white embossed greeting on a strip of the same blue cardstock as the mat, popped up using some Instant Dimension Foam Tape. Finally, I added a few iridescent gems to add a touch of sparkle and extra texture to the background.

Two-fer with Spring Blooms and Karin Markers!

Hi there! I’m up on the Honey Bee Stamps Blog today with a couple of projects created using one watercolored panel and some die cutting! My Spring Blooms background stamp is such a nice size, 6×6, and it’s easy to spend an enjoyable afternoon watercoloring and get two different projects out of the colored panel. Let’s get started with the details!

I realized that I hadn’t watercolored my Spring Blooms background since it had been released, and so I pulled out some gold embossing powder and my Karin Brushmarker Pro markers and got to work! I’ve had a bit of difficulty finding a paper that was easily accessible and moderately affordable that also worked well with the Karin markers, and I was quite thrilled to find that the slightly-less-textured “back” side of Arches Cold Press paper works beautifully with the markers, and a bonus is that its smoother texture makes embossing detailed images like the Spring Blooms background much more crisp!

I heat embossed the majority of the background on a panel of Arches watercolor paper that I had in my scrap drawer, not quite the full size of the background stamp, but close enough, then colored it with the Karin Brushmarker Pro markers in the picture above to create a pretty peachy color scheme with pops of jewel-toned green and hints of charcoal.

After I had completed the watercoloring, I cut one portion down to 2.5×5″ (to fit on a mini-slimline card) and left the other as-is. I matted the mini-slimline panel with some matte gold foil cardstock to help make the shiny gold embossing pop even more. I mounted the embossed and foiled section on a full sized mini-slimline panel of charcoal cardstock to help bring out the charcoal centers of the anemones in the floral background.

I wanted a simple greeting, something that wouldn’t take up a huge amount of space or cover up much of the watercolored background, so I die cut HUGS twice from some more charcoal cardstock using the Bee Narrow Uppercase Alphabet Dies and adhered them together. I added these dimensional alphabet die cuts slightly lower than the very center of the watercolored background. Simple, but the shiny gold embossing and gold foil accents help kick the simple card design up a notch!

I used the second portion of the watercolored panel to create a bookmark. I added some more die cut letters, this time spelling out READ, and punched a hole at the top of the bookmark using my Crop-a-Dile. I also added a ring cut from the Circle Thin Frames dies to help reinforce the hole. The final touch was a pretty deep coral bow and tassel made from some seam binding found in my stash. (This is exactly why I don’t like to throw things away!) How fun would this be to give tucked inside a book as a gift?

Let’s get started on the details for my project today.

I began by stamping the main image from Paint A Flower: Coral Sunset using Embossing Ink on some of Altenew’s Watercolor Paper. This paper is extremely smooth and great for embossing beautifully detailed stamps! I heated some platinum embossing powder over the top, then taped my image down to a watercolor board to minimize warping.

Next, I used the Tropical Fiesta watercolor brush markers to add lots of vibrant color to the panel. When using liquid watercolors, I prefer to scribble the color out onto a ceramic palette, then pick up the color using my watercolor brushes and apply it to the paper with the damp paintbrush, rather than putting the brush marker directly to the paper. This way, I am guaranteed a bit more control with the intensity of the color. It’s easy to add layers of color to achieve super vibrant looks, but it’s much more difficult to take color away, so I try to make sure that I add color to the paper in small doses in all of my watercoloring.

Once my panel had dried completely, I splattered some dark purple watercolor to add a bit of artistic texture, then, once that had dried, heat embossed a greeting from the Paint A Flower: Coral Sunset stamp set, again using platinum embossing powder. I trimmed the sides of the panel and mounted it on an A2 panel of shimmery, deep magenta cardstock, finally adding a few gems to add a bit of sparkling texture.

I have created a sunny yellow project for you today using one of the panels from the Watercolor Coloring Book and some of the Watercolor Brush Marker Refills to do some tie-dye watercoloring. Let’s get started with the details!

I began by taping down my chosen Watercolor Coloring Book panel to my watercolor board, as this tie-dye technique requires quite a lot of water and I wanted to reduce warping. The panels are 5×7, which leave plenty of room to tape them down and still create an A2 card front. I love that they give you the option for a traditional black outline image or a more subtle gray line to do some no-line coloring. I then wet the panel completely with the large brush from the Artists’ Watercolor Brushes – Round and dropped in diluted versions of Sunkissed, Warm Sunshine, and Citrus Burst watercolor all over the paper, moving the color around while the paper was still quite wet, to create a mottled, “tie-dye” background.

Once the background had dried completely, I used more concentrated versions of Sunkissed, Warm Sunshine, and Citrus Burst watercolor, adding in some Espresso, Moss, and Limeade for extra shadows and foliage. The multi-colored, mottled background creates some fun variation on the flower petals, helping them look a bit less flat. I also added a few deep green splatters just for a fun artsy look!

To create an A2 card, I trimmed down the finished panel, then added a deep green Handwritten Hello die cut, which I cut three times from dark green cardstock and adhered together using liquid adhesive to create a dimensional die cut. I also white embossed a sentiment from Sentiment Strips on another panel of deep olive cardstock, which I popped up with dimensional adhesive.

Altenew Color Therapy Blog Hop+Giveaway!

Hi there! Happy Monday! Today, I’m excited to be a stop on the Altenew Color Therapy blog hop! This hop celebrates all things coloring, which, if you’ve visited my blog before, you know is one of my most favorite things, in any and all mediums. I absolutely love Kathy Racoosin’s 30 Day Coloring Challenge. It provides me with a wonderful daily excuse to get out my coloring mediums and just play! From Altenew:

Kathy is celebrating her 14th 30 Day Coloring Challenge until the end of November 2019. This blog hop is meant to encourage you to participate by coloring something and share it on social media using the hashtag #thedailymarker30day. We hope they find “Me Time” and enjoy the benefits that coloring will give. 

I created a super colorful project today using the Altenew Winter Wonderland watercolor brush markers and the Precious Peony stamps and dies. Let’s get started with the details!

I began by stamping a few of the individual floral sprays from Precious Peony using Ink on 3 Fadeout Ink on some hot press watercolor paper. I then used the Winter Wonderland Watercolor Brush Markers to do some no-line watercoloring on these pretty peony images in one of my favorite “fiesta” color schemes- bright yellows, oranges, and fuchsia. I die cut both sprays with the coordinating dies.

Next, I stamped some elements from the Baroque Motifs stamp set onto a panel of deep fuchsia cardstock using Magenta ink. I also blended some more Magenta ink on the opposite corner of the card front using blending brushes.

I created the sentiment using the Sentiment Strips stamp set and the Tall Alpha die set. I first white heat embossed the greeting from Sentiment Strips on a strip of pretty marigold yellow cardstock, then die cut “sweet” from some more yellow cardstock using the Tall Alpha die set, adhering all of the pieces to the card front using liquid adhesive. I cut one of the peony die cuts in half and created a unique bouquet for the damask corner of the card front, adhering the die cuts using foam adhesive. The last step was to add some pretty sparkles for a touch of bling!
