I’ve had a love affair with Studio Katia‘s florals for quite a while…. They’re just gorgeous, particularly the peonies (and we all know how much I love peonies…)! For my projects today, I chose to work with some of the brand new sets that have been sneak peeked all week long and combined them with some of the older sets in Studio Katia’s repertoire. Let’s get started on the details!
For my first project today, I wanted to do some pencil work with that absolutely gorgeous new Lovely Blooms stamp set. These beautiful bouquet images are so wonderful to color; they really are so convenient, because you get a lovely, full bouquet without having to do any time consuming masking! Plus, you can completely change the look depending on what medium you use, the color scheme…. really quite versatile!
To start, I used my white pigment ink pad to stamp the floral bouquet onto some Toned Gray colored pencil paper. I then used my Polychromos pencils to do some no-line coloring (yes, this took me longer than I would care to admit…. but look at the detail on those flowers! I love working with colored pencils because the depth you can achieve is just incredible.) on the main Lovely Blooms image. My best tip for working with colored pencils: layers. Adding layer upon layer of color helps achieve that depth and dimension that is unique to colored pencils. After I had finished my coloring, I trimmed down the pencil panel and added a strip of purple glitter card stock (I found it in my stash, so I have absolutely no idea who made it, sorry!). Next, I added a sentiment from Spring Bouquet stamps and a die cut “friend” from the coordinating Spring Bouquet die set. A few jewels finished it off!
For my second project, I wanted to add combine of the charming sentiments from the brand new Birthday Greetings with an older floral set: Blooming Bunch. This giant bunch of peonies is just stunning… a very unique size and shape of peony, and it includes fully open peonies as well as buds. Just beautiful. I heat embossed it on some Canson L’Aquarelle watercolor paper using Ranger Blush Pearl embossing powder. I love using non-traditional embossing powder colors for flowers, just to see something different than plain old black!
For this bouquet, I watercolored the bright bubble gum pink and lovely coral pink peonies using my Daniel Smith watercolors. The pink peonies were a base of Opera Pink to which I added Quinacridone Rose and Rose of Ultramarine, while the coral peony is a base of Quinacridone Coral and Quinacridone Red. The foliage is a combination of Amazonite Genuine and Pthalo Turquoise. I will link all of the colors individually below.
While my blooms were drying, I die cut one of the lovely Darling Ribbon and Dotted frames and a sentiment strip from some plain white card stock. I also lightly blended some Frosty Pink ink from Altenew in the corner of the card base just to add some interest. I backed it with acetate, then added foam tape around the edge to create a shaker. I filled it with various styles of bling from Studio Katia’s line. After my bouquet was sufficiently dry, I fussy cut it out and added it to the corner of my shaker front. The final step was to stamp my greeting from the new Birthday Greetings set, which fit just perfectly on the little dotted sentiment strip from Darling Ribbon and Dotted Frames die set.
