Hi friends! I have an embroidery project to share with you today using the utterly gorgeous new Butterfly Blossoms stamp set, which I paired with my needles and embroidery floss to create this sweet embroidered art piece! I have never considered myself much of a seamstress, being barely able to sew a button onto a shirt, never mind sewing up holes, but with my recent foray into working with felt, I had to strengthen my sewing skills. As with any new skill, I find myself getting more confident with each project, and so I wanted to test my skills with some of the beautiful images in the new Butterfly Blossoms set, which was released as part of the April 2025 Card Kit of the Month and the new Rain or Shine release from Simon Says Stamp. Let’s get started with the details on my project!

To begin my project, I cut a small circle of light gray fabric using my sharp scissors, cutting it to fit a 4″ circular embroidery hoop. For detailed embroidery work like this, I like to use a very delicate, tightly woven fabric so that I can use a satin stitch to create very solid, intricately shaped stitching. The fabric’s delicate weave allows me to thread each stitch very close to each other so that I can make each image as solid and vibrant as possible without the fabric behind the image showing through.
After I had cut my fabric to the proper size, I used Melon Pawsitively Saturated Ink to stamp the main floral bouquet and butterflies from Butterfly Blossoms. I also used a light orange gel pen to add some small flowers and grass at the bottom of the hoop, creating a little meadow scene. I selected a lovely pale pink, lavender, fuchsia, magenta, and maroon color palette, embroidering each petal individually to create shape and dimension, then adding some extra shimmer with some metallic foil embroidery floss. After I had embroidered each stamped and drawn image, I used that same metallic floss to add some seed bead embellishments to the images, adding another element of shimmer and texture.
After I had finished the embroidery, I used one of the new Basic Shapes Circles Dies with some Simon Says Stamp 120 lb Ultra Thick White Cardstock to create a backer for my embroidery hoop, then used my hot glue gun to adhere it to the wooden hoop. This creates a lovely finish for your embroidered pieces and allows you to hide any unsightly thread tangles in the back! (Or maybe that’s just me, ha!) The final touch was a gorgeous mauve velvet bow at the top to to finish everything off.
