The Stamp Market Insta Hop-Some Kind of Wonderful!

June 6, 2019

Good morning! I had the honor of being asked to participate in an Instagram hop to celebrate one of the prettiest stamps from The Stamp Market’s newest release with some of my closest friends (and fellow flower lovers): Jessica Frost-Ballas and Caly Person! The Stamp Market debuted an absolutely jaw-dropping floral stamp yesterday called Some Kind of Wonderful (SM|EH), and I am so honored that I got to play with it and share my project with you! We had a little Instagram hop with prizes, and Amy has also generously given me (and Jessica and Caly) a Some Kind of Wonderful (SM|EH) stamp set to give away to one lucky blog reader, so read all the way to the end to find out how to enter the giveaway!

The main floral image in the Some Kind of Wonderful (SM|EH) stamp set is really quite large, so I wanted to take advantage of that generous sizing by creating an equally generously-sized card!! This whopper is 6×6! I did some creative masking and stamping on this project, so let’s get started with the details.

I began by using my T-square and a pencil to lightly trace a square in the center of my 5.75″ squared panel of watercolor paper. I then heat embossed the greeting from Some Kind of Wonderful (SM|EH) in the bottom left corner of the square using Platinum embossing powder. After determining my sentiment placement, I decided to have one large, full bloom hanging over into the square, so I erased some of the square, then stamped one full bloom using Ink On 3’s Fadeout Ink. I then used Post It notes to mask the rest of the square (covering some of the stamped bloom, as well), stamping a pattern around the edge at varied angles.

I wanted to do some monochromatic watercoloring in peaches and rosy pinks, so I used some very heavily diluted Quinacridone Coral to do a light wash in the background of the floral pattern, leaving the center square free of color, then used a combination of Quinacridone Pink and Rose of Ultramarine for the petals, with touches of New Gamboge at the edges of the petals for some sunkissed contrast.

For the flower centers, I added a concentrated section of Neutral Tint to one side of the center, then after it had dried, I used the very tip of my paintbrush to stipple some concentrated Neutral Tint, keeping the stippling more concentrated where the color was deeper, and tapering off where the color lightened. I used a similar technique for the foliage, adding color to the leaves themselves (Phthalo Turquoise) and blending it out with clean water, allowing it to dry, then using the very tip of my brush and some concentrated color to add the veins. Allowing the first layer of watercoloring to dry before adding the detail layer prevents the concentrated color from bleeding on the wet watercoloring.

After all of my watercoloring had dried, I mounted the painting on a 6×6 panel of pink glitter card stock.

Well, that’s all for this project! This is going to be a hard stamp set to put down… I am eagerly awaiting the next Daily Marker 30 Day challenge so that I can play with this set even more! Amy from The Stamp Market has generously donated a Some Kind of Wonderful stamp set for me to give away to one of my loyal followers! All you have to do is leave me a comment telling me what your favorite coloring medium is. I’d love it if you were also a subscriber, either via email or otherwise, but it’s not required. I’m getting ready to go on vacation, so I will leave the giveaway open until I get back on 6/15!

I also highly encourage you to check out the beautiful projects made by my dear friends, Jessica Frost-Ballas and Caly Person! You can see more details on this stamp set on The Stamp Market blog, as well! Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a marvelous day!

The Stamp Market October Release Blog Hop!

October 5, 2018

Good morning! Today, I’m super excited to be taking part in The Stamp Market‘s October Release Blog Hop! You should have arrived here from the fantastic Carly Minner’s blog, and your next stop is the fabulous Lea Lawson’s blog. Amy has released some absolutely stunning designs this week, and I was lucky enough to work with the insanely, marvelously, jaw-droppingly gorgeous Floral Bouquet (I don’t currently possess enough superlatives to describe how much I love this stamp set). I couldn’t resist doing two cards for today’s hop, so let’s get started with the details!

I cannot express how much I love the Floral Bouquet stamp set. This little spray of beautiful flowers with the berries…. makes my heart go pitter patter. It reminds me of a beautiful French toile, so I stamped a pretty background panel using some Copic friendly black ink, then colored them a shocking pink with Copic markers, adding lime green to the leaves and some peachy orange to the berries. I could see these beautiful nosegays in SO many color combinations…. such a stunning design.

After I’d finished coloring all of the flowers, I added a frame using my T-square and a black marker. I die cut the “You” from an older Stamp Market set (that is sadly retired) using black glitter paper. Those flowers though…. wow! I want this print on a chair in my craft room…. or maybe some wall paper… Hmm.

Copics used: RV06, 17, 66, 69; T7; YR02; R05, 08; YG 11, 13, 17, 21

For my second project, I was unable to resist no-line painting that giant peony image from Floral Bouquet. What a truly superb rendition of a big fat peony. Those giant petals… they’re fantastic for practicing shading and depth. I can’t wait to dig in with my colored pencils, either. 😉 After stamping the images using Ink On 3 Fadeout Ink, I used a combination of Daniel Smith Quinacridone Coral, Rhodonite Genuine, and Neutral Tint for the florals, with Undersea Green and Indanthrone Blue for the leaves, with a halo of Indanthrone Blue as well.

After all of that work painting that massive peony, I didn’t want to cover it up with too much of a sentiment, so I white embossed a greeting from Beautiful Blooms on a thin strip of black card stock, then popped it up using some foam adhesive.

The Stamp Market Instagram Hop!

June 20, 2018

Good morning! I am participating in a special Instagram hop today using some new goodies from The Stamp Market. I have been having a mild obsession with their products since the company first opened, and the stamp sets in this release just might be my favorite stamps from them ever. We are hopping over on Instagram today, but I thought I’d share my cards here for those readers who don’t follow me on Instagram. 🙂 I made two, one using the new Friendly Bunch (my personal favorite from this release) and Tropical Blooms (which has absolutely gorgeous flowers that I can’t wait to play with more!). I’ve blogged the first one here, but I will have the second one up on Instagram, where you can find me as @eamidgett. 🙂 Come find me! There are several people in this little hop today, and lots of beautiful inspiration to be had using the new release from The Stamp Market!

Amy’s design for the Friendly Bunch stamps is just divine. I love coloring flowers this shape, in particular, because the petals are large enough that you can really work at them and get some great depth and dimension. Sometimes, if the petals or the flower itself is fairly small, it can be challenging to add much in the way of shading, simply because your pencil cannot be sharpened fine enough to get in those tiny nooks and crannies. But these beautiful blooms from Friendly Bunch are just the perfect size and shape for really adding fabulous dimension with Polychromos pencils.

I started by stamping the main image using white pigment ink onto a piece of Jelly Bean card stock from Bazzill. Bazzill cardstock has very nice tooth, making it perfect for use with colored pencils. I then used my Polychromos pencils to color the image, first laying down a layer of white pencil (as I would with Prismacolors) and then coloring as I normally would over the top. With Polychromos pencils, you keep adding layers of color until you achieve a nice smooth blend, and that layer of white helps to cut down on the amount of time you have to spend shading each petal.

After I had finished coloring, I die cut the “smile” from the coordinating die set for Friendly Bunch using some white cardstock upon which I had sprayed some Hero Arts White Shimmer Spritz. I added the die cut to the card front, then added the sentiment on a strip and adhered it to the card front as well. The final touch was to add some pretty purple jewels from Pretty Pink Posh.

Well, that’s all for me on this post! Remember, head over to Instagram to see all of the projects from the hop participants. There is lots of fantastic inspiration to be had, not to mention a GIVEAWAY! I hope you’ll check it out!

Making the most of it. (plus *Black Friday Sales*!!!)

November 22, 2017

Hi there! Have you seen the Concord and 9th Floral Fill In stamp and die set? I love sets that can be used in super creative ways, and this one definitely fits that bill. I was able to create four cards very quickly using just this one set!! Great for mass production, which is perfect for this time of year. I used this stamp set to create my cards for the Where Creativity Meets C9 project for this month’s group post, and was able to create another card from some of the leftover bits from those beautiful floral panels!

To start, I used my MISTI to stamp the large background panel from Floral Fill In three times on an A2 panel of card stock using Altenew’s Emerald ink (SSS|EH). It’s the perfect Christmas green, don’t you think? I used a regular stamp block to stamp the rest of the details on the panels, adding Ruby Red (SSS|EH) to the large flowers, Velvet (SSS|EH) to the berries, Volcano Lake (SSS|EH) to the leaves, and Morning Frost (SSS|EH) to the smaller flowers to add a shadow to a “white” flower. I repeated this process with all three panels. These flowers are super easy to line up, and even if they’re not perfect, it still fits with the hand-drawn aesthetic! Love it.

After I had stamped all of the background panels, I used the coordinating dies to cut one floral cluster from each background panel.

After I had die cut the floral clusters, I placed them in the center of a white card base in a cluster. After popping them up with dimensional adhesive. I used the “merry” die that was included as the free gift from Concord and 9th with your October purchase… love that font! I die cut it in black, adhered it to the front of the floral cluster, then added some Spectrum Noir Shimmer Pen  and Nuvo Crystal Glaze. To finish off the greeting, I used the Holiday Hellos stamp set from The Stamp Market. I love using holiday song lyrics for Christmas cards, and the simple font on that set combined with the beautiful calligraphy of the die were a match made in heaven!

The final touch was to add a twine bow and some Disco Ball jewels  to add even more sparkle and texture.

Well, that’s all for this project! I know you’re probably inundated with sales pitches, but I just wanted to let you know about a few sales coming up this weekend. First, to get the products I used in this project, visit Concord and 9th’s Black Friday Sale! No code needed, just do your shopping and your discount will be reflected at checkout! I hope you have an utterly marvelous holiday with your family and friends. Happy Thanksgiving!
