Special Release: Simon Says Stamp Exclusive Dies for Tim Holtz and Ranger!

June 24, 2025

Hi friends! Simon Says Stamp has had a special surprise release today: Exclusive Dies to match previously-released Tim Holtz cling stamp sets! These new coordinating die sets are exclusive to Simon Says Stamp and make crafting with these cling stamp sets such a joy. Click HERE to see all of these Specialty Bundles! I created three different projects highlighting these fabulous new dies, so let’s do a brief rundown of each project.

For this first project, I decided to do a fun vertical ombré with several different shades of blue to green Pawsitively Saturated Inks. I began by blending Spring, Dublin, Tropic, Ocean, Cadette, and Royal inks from left to right on a horizontal A2 card front. I went over the first layer with a second layer of ink blending to ensure a smooth gradient from color to color. To add some whimsy to the background, I splattered some diluted white gouache over the entirety of the panel.

I also used the same shades of ink to stamp the images from the Tim Holtz Wildflowers stamp set on white cardstock, then die cut them with the new coordinating dies. The white splatters on the background complement the white edges of the floral silhouette die cuts! I also white embossed a sentiment from Airy Greetings onto a strip of coordinating teal cardstock, then backed it with a slightly larger strip of coordinating blue glitter cardstock. I popped up the floral die cuts on their coordinating color stripe with foam adhesive, then added the sentiment strip over the top with a double layer of thin foam adhesive squares. For a final sparkling touch, I added a couple of Prism Pawsitively Dazzling Gems to each side of the greeting.

For my second project, I thought I would pair the delicate florals in the Mini Bouquet bundle with the feminine, lacy borders in the Ornate Trims bundle! When I was first learning to watercolor, I used Distress Inks, so this project took me back to my roots, for sure! I stamped the floral images from Mini Bouquet using Milled Lavender Distress Ink, then tapped Milled Lavender, Dusty Concord, and Iced Spruce out on my glass craft mat and used a damp paintbrush to pick up the color to do some delicate no-line watercolor with these pretty florals! Though these images are dainty, a paintbrush with a nice, crisp point and some patience to allow each section to dry will ensure that those details are not lost! After painting, I die cut the finished Mini Bouquet images with their new coordinating dies.

To further enhance the slightly “shabby chic” feel for this card, I stamped two of the different borders from the Ornate Trims bundle on a piece of white cardstock using Simon Says Stamp’s Petunia Pawsitively Saturated Ink. I die cut the stamped borders with their new coordinating dies, then adhered them in the center of a white A2 card front with some thin foam adhesive. Layering the trims reminds me so much of crocheted lace, like on the edge of a linen sheet or curtain! I arranged the watercolored florals in a swag, popping them up with a double layer of foam adhesive to achieve extra dimension, then tucked a die cut deep plum “hugs” dimensional die cut next to the bouquet. I added some Lilac Pawsitively Dazzling Gems and tucked a twine bow into the bouquet. I absolutely love how this one turned out! Clean and feminine with a hint of shabby chic.

For my final project, I was inspired by Tim Holtz’s incredible mixed media projects to try my hand at some mixed media of my own! I enjoy pushing myself outside of my typical symmetrical, carefully constructed projects to do something a bit more whimsical occasionally, and this frame that I found at my local dollar store provided me the perfect canvas to create some splattery mixed media goodness! I painted the wooden shadow box frame with a pearlescent royal purple, then selected Pawsitively Saturated Inks that worked nicely with the vibrant purple frame: Amethyst, Sky, Dew, and Heather. I lightly blended these colors on my 6×6 background panel, creating an ethereal blended background, then used the Bokeh Lights Stencils to add some interest to the background. To keep a semi-tone-on-tone background, I carefully blended the same colors on the stencils as the blended background behind it, which I think adds to the ethereal feel of the background. For the stencil with the largest dots, I used Tim Holtz’s Frozen Fog Mica Spray to add some subtle shimmer; I also splattered some handmade iridescent watercolors on the background for lots of different elements of shimmer and shine!

After I had created the background, I worked with the new stamp and die bundles to create a magical meadow. I heat embossed the butterflies from the Flutter bundle onto some vellum using silver sparkle embossing powder, then die cut them with their coordinating dies. I love embossing butterflies onto vellum; I think it makes them even more delicate and weightless! I also heat embossed some florals from the Wildflowers bundle using White Satin Pearl embossing powder. Before die cutting, I used residual ink from my blending brushes to lightly blend Dew ink on the foliage and Amethyst and Heather on the florals, which when die cut creates a lovely and ethereal emboss/resist effect!

I layered all of the die cuts on the blended background panel with so much (and I do mean SO MUCH) foam adhesive, creating multiple layers and heights by doubling it up for die cuts in the foreground. Finally, I added a “magical” die cut, cut from holographic mirror foil cardstock, but unfortunately I see that that die has been discontinued. You could recreate this with some individual alphabet letter dies, however! I think this finished product is just so much fun and such a departure from my regular projects.

Well, that’s all for me today! If you love Tim Holtz stamps but have been yearning for coordinating dies to make your life easier, Simon Says Stamp has made your wishes come true. I hope you’ll check out all of the fabulous bundles available, because Simon has a variety of bundles for many of Tim Holtz’s stamp designs available. You can check them all out HERE! Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a marvelous day!

Inspired by Pantone Color of the Year with Simon Says Stamp Beautiful Bouquets + SALE!

March 1, 2024

This post was sponsored by Simon Says Stamp. Thanks, Simon!

Hi friends! Happy March! The days are getting longer, the air is getting warmer and sweeter (sometimes, ha), and the birds are definitely singing. Springtime is so close I can taste it! I thought I would welcome March with some springtime flowers using some of my older illustrations for Simon Says Stamp, including the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set, which was my very first illustration for Simon Says Stamp and one of my all-time favorites! I thought it would be fun to play with some updated color combinations, something a little different from my normal pinks and purples, so I turned to the Pantone Color of the Year: Peach Fuzz.

For me, peach is one of those colors that works beautifully as an accent color, but sometimes gets forgotten as a focal point color. I recently saw a photo of a gorgeous, muted peach anemone and immediately wanted to try my hand at creating my own. The anemone in the Beautiful Bouquet is one of my favorite flowers that I’ve ever drawn; the movement in the flower makes me feel like it’s blowing gracefully in the wind, so I always seem to let it be the focal point on whatever project I use it! I thought it would be lovely to add some crisp blue hydrangea and delicate blue filler flowers to complement the pretty muted peach, so I pulled out a bunch of OLO markers and got to coloring!

I started by stamping my Beautiful Bouquet image onto an A2 card front using Contour Ink from Hero Arts, which is my favorite ink for no-line coloring. Using my color chart for OLO markers, I selected markers for my flowers, creating unique blends by not remaining within one color family, but rather mixing and matching from OR, RG, and R families.

I always blend my colors out on a piece of scrap cardstock so that I can be sure that the color I’ve envisioned in my head comes to life on the paper similarly. It takes a few tries sometimes to get just the right blend, and sometimes I end up going back over the entire image with a different marker to “glaze” the image and make the undertones better fit the picture in my mind’s eye. I did some of this “glazing” with my peach rose; the rose that I had colored with the OLO markers was a bit too dull for what I intended, so I perused my Copic collection and found a peachy marker that worked perfectly in conjunction with the OLO markers that I had selected. This is my first time mixing the OLO and Copic alcohol markers together, and I am excited to see what possibilities lay ahead for creating even more unique color blends!

Because I had used my alcohol markers to color the images and kept the shadows super intense, I wanted to make sure that the center of the anemone was visible but didn’t want to use a black marker, so I pulled out some of my handmade shimmer watercolors. Since they are opaque, so they show up beautifully on the alcohol marker images.

After I had finished coloring the images, I used blending brushes to blend Simon Says Stamp’s Peachy and Ballet inks around the edges to create a beautiful “Peach Fuzz” glow. For the greeting, I die cut the Big Scripty Hugs die from some Pinkfresh Studio Rose Gold Glitter Cardstock. I wanted to help that sparkling sentiment to stand out a bit more from the colorful background, so I die cut a vellum banner using Simon Says Stamp’s Nested Banners die set. I also heat embossed a sentiment from Beautiful Bouquet onto some coordinating peach cardstock using Brass embossing powder and trimmed the strip down. I added some dots of liquid adhesive behind the solid die cut sentiment to hide the adhesive, then adhered it to the edge of my colored panel. I popped up the sentiment strip with some foam squares, overlapping the die cut sentiment, and finally added a few shimmering iridescent gems for one more touch of sparkle!

Well, that’s all for my project today welcoming spring onto my blog! I feel like I haven’t properly colored for a long time with Christmas and Valentine’s Day projects, but I have been getting reacquainted with my coloring mediums for the last four days straight, and I am here. for. it. Bokeh + Butterflies = A Match Made In Heaven!!

August 4, 2023

This post was sponsored by Simon Says Stamp. Thanks, Simon!

Hi friends! I have a thing about bugs. I’m not a fan. (shocking, right?) Bugs give me the heebie jeebies… except butterflies. Butterflies and their beautiful colors, their delicate wings, the way they gracefully-but-a-little-awkwardly fly about, bobbing around without any real direction… they entrance me. Add in the fact that they are descended from chubby caterpillars, and I’m sold. When I picture butterflies, I picture them bobbing about in a garden surrounded by flowers, fairies, and shimmering fountains. It’s a fanciful mental picture, but butterflies are so ethereal that I think it works. I created an ethereal encouragement card today using the beautiful Graceful Butterfly embossing folder and die combo from Simon Says Stamp. Let’s get started with the details!

To create that ethereal background in my imagination, I pulled out the Bokeh Lights stencils. I have a love affair with bokeh; very little is quite as magical to me as a bokeh background. I first blended Orchid, Heather, Twilight inks at random on a white A2 background, then used the stencils to blend the same shades. I used the Orchid for the largest bubbles, the Heather for the medium, and the Twilight for the smallest. I didn’t want the dark blue of the Twilight to overpower the rest of the colors, so I saved that color for the smallest pattern. Once I had finished blending the stenciled pattern on the background, I blended some more Twilight ink lightly around the edges to give it a cohesive look and draw the eye to the center of the card. To add to the magic, I splattered some super shiny handmade glitter watercolors on the background, as well.

To create the fluttering butterflies, I die cut and embossed the Graceful Butterflies Embossing Folder + Dies using Lawn Fawn pearlescent vellum. This vellum is a bit thinner than my normal heavyweight vellum, but the pearlescent sheen is absolutely magical and embossed beautifully with the coordinating embossing folder! I also die cut the butterflies’ bodies with pearlescent white foil cardstock and adhered them to the embossed butterflies using liquid adhesive.

For the greeting, I die cut the Big Scripty Hugs once from some cobalt blue matte foil cardstock from my stash and twice more from white cardstock, layering them together to create a dimensional die cut. I also heat embossed a greeting from Butterfly Dreams onto some coordinating purple cardstock using silver embossing powder. I adhered all of the die cuts and sentiment pieces using clear foam adhesive, liquid adhesive, and regular foam adhesive, then tucked a few shimmering iridescent rhinestones on the background to add one more glint of sparkle!

Well, that’s all for my project today. I love the magically luminous feel of this card! It’s so sparkly and shimmery in real life. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a marvelous day!
